Day 26 – What is the oddest (or funnest) thing you've had to research for a fic?
Hmm. I do a lot of research for my work, and most of it isn't odd, in context. Probably the first thing that leaps to mind when I think of this question is this. I knew I wanted to set this reunion scene in an airport, preferably one in France, but I didn't realize how freaking cool the Aéroport Paris-Charles de Gaulle actually was. It's an architectural wonder, and I was pleased as punch when I realized several films and music videos had been filmed there - including, ultimately, the song I used as inspiration for that installment.
Other research topics of mine have included:
[+] how to survive an interview for the Japanese equivalent of a postdoc business internship
[+] the Nikkei and its various stocks, bonds, and EFTs
[+] the mixologist's cheat sheet for bartending
[+] New York City and its equivalent 25 years ago
[+] insulin pumps
I pull a lot of ideas from my own personal areas of interest, so a great deal of what I write about, I already have some familiarity with - I tend to lose interest otherwise.
