I like how it doesn't rain for days on end, and then when the sky finally decides to quite literally rip open, its during the one hour that 1) my soap is on, and 2) I want to post fic. *facepalm*
Lots of references this week, so let's just hop right in...
[+] The title song has been mentioned before, all the way back in chapter two ;) Kids Inc did a fine job covering Heart songs over the years, and this time around is certainly no different:
[+] Ryan's audition song was John Cafferty's "Tough All Over." Unlike the other auditions on the show, he actually performed live with the band in concert before ever learning if he'd actually made it into the group. High stakes, indeed o.O And look how far he's come! =)
[+] Stacy's good luck charm was an old ring she found in a magician's trunk during the first episode of season three, "O Lucky Me". I really like this episode a lot, not only for the storyline and the way my pairing interacted, but also for the song selection. Ryan's voice had finally matured beyond the cringe-inducing stage, and he actually had lead on a majority of the songs in this episode. I love his cover of "All I Need is a Miracle", and it will probably one day inspire a songfic ~ its certainly on the back burner, at least.
In my personal ship manifesto, this is the second really strong episode that displays the Ryan/Stacy relationship, and how it evolved over time. The scene the two are talking about in their memories is this one ~
[+] Stacy teasing Renee about her crush also happened in Season 3, in the third episode "Crush on You." Its Renee's turn upon the merry-go-round of Unrequited Crushes on Characters Who Shall Never Be Mentioned Again. The episode isn't available on YouTube, but suffice to say, Stacy and the Kid gave poor, embarrassed Renee hell over her crush after - and stop me when this starts to sound familiar - finding her notebook covered in hearts and doodles.
[+] This chapter contains remixed scenes from episode 5x8 "The Guitarist." For some reason I am continually drawn back to this episode when I look at the fifth season canon. I don't really know why, and when I started this fic venture, I thought it'd be one of the storylines I'd have to drop because there was no way to really make it fit, especially not after making Brian the antagonist. Then, suddenly, I hit upon this idea of a temporary hiatus for Ryan, and suddenly canon was the solution to my fanficcing problems. I love it when that happens, LOL!! :P And, even better, there's enough material here, between the canon and the original storylines I'm weaving in, to wring a few chapters from this one aired episode, especially if I 'remix' it by changing up the order of events. So, basically, that's a really long-winded way of saying, I used two scenes from the episode, which you can watch here:

And now I'm all excited, because I see a long-lost Ryan-centric episode has just been posted to YouTube :D :D :D :D :D If the storms can just hold off a little longer, I can go to bed a happy bunny, LOL!
