When good muses go bad

(click on the banner to read the story)
The thing with muses is, they don't realize that to compose a great epic work of (fan)fiction, it sucks away years of the writer's life. They don't care - they need to be satisfied, no matter what.
A conversation with the voices in my head:
(Yesterday, approx 12:00)
Me: Hm, I really need to start working on my final paper for this class...
Muses: No, no, you want to write fiction today!
Me: *sigh* Okay, yeah, I kinda do...how about I work on Memento Mori a little bit, the sequel ideas are beginning to really gel into a cohesive form --
Muses: NO! We want Sess/Kag!
Me: And I want to work on this piece! It'd be pretty cool if I could have it finished soon after the polls for the IYFG close...after all, the sequel is only a few months overdue by now.
Muses: *barrel on, ignoring my protests* How about that other idea? You know, "The Wrong Ending"? Lots of folks seemed intrigued by the premise, and come on - you want to eventually write this pairing in the canon universe, don't you?
Me: *relenting* Well, yeah...
Muses: You know it could *totally* be expanded. This is like the first scene, and you totally had like 500 more words you wanted to add to it but couldn't because of the word count.
Me: That's true, but I don't know if I'm ready to commit to writing a long story again.
Muses: See, this is what would happen after that -- *FLOOD MY BRAIN WITH POTENTIALLY EPIC IDEA*
Me: Whoa, whoa, whoa, guys! Let's not get carried away!
Muses: *whisper* You know this could be big...and you already have another piece of the puzzle -- that short you wrote for the "Boredom" prompt...
Me: *realization* OMG, that totally fits into this world! It's been bugging me even since someone asked what happened to Rin. This would tie it all together --
Muses: *evil laughter* Yes, it would! *reveal more potential scenes*
Me: You guys, the only way this would work is if I wrote it like an epic. Sesshoumaru's a freaking glacier and his emotions change about as fast as one --
Muses: *feign innocence* Is that so bad?
Me: *points to long mental list of unfinished pieces* Uhh?????? Yes???
Muses: *seductive whisper* You know you want to... *reveal entire outline of plot*
Me: *powerless to resist* If I do this, will you let me work on Memento Mori first?
Long story short: Yeah, I'm totally going to run with this idea. It doesn't help that when I went looking for screencaps of the anime, they were taunting me with, "See? It *totally* fits in the canon universe, mwahahaha!"
I'm just hoping I can hold them at bay til 2009, when I will actually have the time to devote to this thing that I have a feeling it's going to require...
