This prompt was a lot of fun to write, and actually, it was the idea for this prompt that spurred me into making the decision to write this story. It's a relatively easy prompt to answer (jealousy is, after all, lust's evil twin), but I wanted to do something a little different than the usual. And, considering this is Kids Inc we're talking about, it had to be relatively clean :P
I've always had this notion that there was something to the Ryan/Gloria ship. These characters were the oldest in Season 3 (1986), and they definitely acted like it, taking the lead and/or backing the other up, all quite seamlessly. I touched on the idea of the ship in Stacy in Bloom, and there's actual a prequel to that story simmering in the back of my mind, but I just couldn't resist adding it outright to this story. This serial is just as much about indulging my head-canon as my epic fic is, so yay! Or something, LOL.
It was actually the rekindled love for another fandom that put the idea of a school carnival as a setting in my mind. This worked perfectly with the idea of having a kissing booth (the 'twist' on the requirement of a snog for this entry), and it meant there was some precedent for it in this general time period of the late 80s/early 90s. This is from the first episode of the Baby-sitters Club TV series (first video starts near the end; carnival scene is continued in second video):

One thing I wanted to highlight in this story (besides Stacy's conflicting feelings) was how much she and the Kid were growing apart, at least in terms of the way they saw romantic "mushy gushy" feelings. This takes place between seasons three and four. The Kid still sees it as something to ridicule; he can't wait to find Ryan and tease him about what he's done. Stacy, of course, fails to see the humor in the situation, unknowingly wearing her feelings on her sleeve - but, if asked, she'd deny it like the day is long. Its something that creates a rift between friends, when one kinda 'grows up' without the other. (I like to think Renee just finds the entire situation amusing, considering she and Ryan are the same age, but that's beside the point.)
So our girl is growing up here, and will simply keep moving headlong through adolescence as the story continues =)
