I mean, yes, Jessica was chasing Todd in #1 because he was handsome and popular - but not because she actually cared about him, only what he could do for her. You know, her usual MO when chasing non-serious boyfriends :) It's also kinda what made it so sweet that Todd was interested in Liz the whole time. Or at least, that's my take on it.
I guess its easier to picture a class clown/nerd alert type of character? I remember being pleasantly surprised when the TV show started and I thought they picked a decently accurate actor to play him. I'm still kinda miffed we never saw Steven or the Wakefield parents, though.
OMG, I temporarily forgot about the actual prom that ended SVH 40+ books from now! There's a whole arc about it, no less, and I'll just bet that party wasn't thrown together in two weeks. (IDK, I haven't read it, was totally put off by the whole Devon storyline.) And there was similiarly no cliched prom night endings because Natural Disaster, AND another beloved character death!
