Ooh, time for some drama!

Its been interesting to see which chapters receive viewer response, and which ones don't. So far, it seems the general viewing public prefers when I write the ensemble cast, as opposed to the romantic one-on-one chapters. Hmm. Not that it bothers me, but its interesting nonetheless. It does make me wish I'd been around when the fandom was a little more active...I'm actually curious reaction on the ground to the ship wars!

Moving on, here are this week's references....

[+] The title song was a cover performed by Ryan, from the season 5 episode "When the Clock Strikes Twelve." This was Ryan's "showpiece" episode of the season, but its not really one of my favorites. There was just something that missed the mark about him being the one petrified by a bully (not to mention suddenly enamored of joining the baseball team but whatever). So, I'm trying to remix this episode a little as I integrate it into my plotline...instead of fighting with a heretofore unmentioned bully, he gets his grar on vs someone who has been antagonizing him.

Its hard to write fight scenes for this series, because the band members never really fought with each other (or their dancers). They had little cold wars sometimes, but never a shouting match, at least not that I'm aware of. What they are rather infamous for is the relentless optimism at facing a problem, hence the fast turnaround time by the end of the chapter. It also softens the blow of the plot twist a little, and gives me an opening to put in one of my favorite episodes of the season.

Anyway, here's a clip of the song...and yeah, no, I'm not a big fan of Ryan's outfit, either o.O

[+] Stacy the brat is a bit of an oblique reference to the very first season of the show. She was the youngest, and she acted accordingly, LOL. Unfortunately, I do not have access to all of the episodes, so I haven't seen this behavior for myself, outside of a song or two, but this is probably the most infamous example.

[+] Riley's "ice cream delights" is a direct reference to the season four episode "You Have the Wrong Date," when he creates the "sun-daisy-mae" sundae in honor of the Sadie Hawkins' Day dance, not to mention the flavor eventually named after the Kid. In the early seasons, Riley's schtick was that he was constantly inventing seemingly needless/useless things, including but not limited to motorized ice cream scoops, a voice-activated toaster, and even a time machine. (Yeah, that's one of those cracky second season episodes, LOL.)

[+] Brian the bully...I feel compelled to apologize to poor Brian Poth! LOL I chose him completely arbitrarily and foisted this personality on him, when there is nothing to indicate he was a jerk during his time on the show (or after). In the Kids Inc universe, it seems everyone can be redeemed, so I'll post one of my favorite late-season fantasy sequences, that he features prominently in, as penance :P

A final note - please enjoy, and apologies in advance for the cliffhanger! I'm putting this story on hiatus for the next month, while I try to catch up with other fandom and RL obligations...
