At this point I am well aware of my (selective) fandom "blindness" and how awful a person it makes me. Then again, canon pretty much has to beat me over the head with any given pairing for me to see it at all...
The people who prefer yaoi and yuri and whatnot are free to see the "subtext" if they want, and they are free to read and write what they want. I've no problem with that. What I hate are the insults and the accusations of homophobia (because I don't think two characters are gay? Really?) and the weird fangirl/fanboy rants about how "canon" a pairing is when it's obvious to more open-minded individuals that it's not canon at all but still possible to write and enjoy - and the insinuation that people who don't see the supposed subtext or like the pairing are stupid.
