Inspirations come in bits and pieces (a little love for fanartists and reviewers)

Every once and again I like to compile lists. It gives my creative muses a short break, and allows me to organize the chaos they wreak in the meantime, LOL. Right now, I'm in the process of updating my recommendations list. I keep a running list here at my LJ on a post-dated post, occasionally adding to it as I find things that catch my fancy. This is generally where I draw my recs to others, as well as my award nominations.

If there's anything you'd like to recommend to me (old story, new story, art of any kind, BNF or recently discovered author/artist), feel free :) I'll give everything a chance, but I don't generally read /view yaoi or hardcore smut.

[The fanfic section is currently still under renovation as I try to remember all the WIPs I like to follow, so please pardon the dust!]

That being said, as I trawled through my list during revisions, I had the chance to revisit my favorite artists and OMG fangirl moment!!

Considering this term of the [livejournal.com profile] fa_awards is about to close (vote now if you haven't already!), I had the chance to look over some awesome artwork. One of the things I really enjoy about the Feudal Association is that it honors fanart as well as fanfic, and there is no time limit for nominations. As I looked over the nominations, it occurred to me that maybe I should pay my favorite artists another visit and see if any of them had updated :)

This sudden spurt for art was intensified after visiting Eternal Destiny for their anniversary celebrations. The new banner was based on a piece of art by righteousred, one of my favorite Inuyasha fanartists. I love the way she draws the characters, and she has a wicked sense of humor as well. This led me to check up on my favorite Sess/Kag fanartist, Youkai Yume, and I found some definite inspiration for my upcoming 'epic' of sorts:

OMG

It could be the cover for "The Wrong Ending". I seriously fangirlled for a good hour or two when I saw this, reveling in the epic intentions of that story. I can't wait to get started on it in earnest!!

She's currently drawing a doujinshi, "Raindrops", and it is absolutely gorgeous. I demand that you read it if you haven't already! If you poke around the rest of her art, you'll find a few bits of inspiration for my fics, as well as others' work (I've seen that [livejournal.com profile] priestess_skye is writing a serial based on Youkai Yume's "Everyday Love" sketches).

Other (current in the fandom) artists earning repeat visits from me include [livejournal.com profile] kriscynical, jojo-kun, Tally Mark, [livejournal.com profile] kryptoinuyasha, and gimpyslair. These talented folks do more than just Inuyasha fanart, of course, and they represent a wide range of stylings, from dark to comedy to realism to unabashed shippy-ness :)

I also wanted to take a moment and say that my readers/reviewers are the awesomesauce. I have already compiled a list of my favorite reviews, but sometimes it bears repeating :) I have one lady now who is loving my "Fleeting" collection so hard that she makes me giggle like an excited schoolgirl with her reviews. I love publishing a new chapter, knowing she's going to be able to read and enjoy it, even to somewhat...dramatic lengths. I wouldn't trade you for the world, LC Rose, no matter how crazy you are!

To anybody who's followed one of my series, or enjoyed a drabble or oneshot posted for a contest entry: thank you. If you've been gracious enough to leave me a review (or reviews on multiple pieces): thank you, from the depths of my heart. I like knowing that the risk I take in sharing my work with the public is exceeded by the outpouring of faithfulness from you guys. For me, one consistent, happy reviewer is worth 20 "update now plz!" drive-by responses. I don't write the most popular stuff in the world, but I've gotten so many thoughtful, well-worded responses to my work - that quality more than makes up for quantity, and/or fandom-wide popularity.

On a slightly less sappy note, I do have to LOL a little about the response to my "Fleeting" serial. I seem to have picked up a nice little following for this at FF.net, but for every one or two reviews I receive, I get approximately 5 Story Alerts added to it. Don't get me wrong; I'm glad people find it intriguing enough to want to be alerted as to when I update it, but it's kinda amusing to see 5 reviews and 21 alerts on a story!

I know a lot of people knock FF.net's system, but since their last update I've found it quite easy to use (uploading fics) and it doesn't strip out my scene break characters. I also like that I can track when people add me to their faves or alert lists. This is a nice way of gauging how many people are really reading my work, a system I wish other archives employed. We all know hit counters aren't terribly accurate, but sometimes I wish I knew who was silently hanging off my every word at other archives (especially Media Miner).

I also use my FF.net alerts as an unofficial recommendation list, to see what other stories people have enjoyed alongside mine. Considering the quality of review I seem to elicit at MM.org, I'd be interested to see those users' favorites lists, on a site that welcomes all sorts of fics.

Oh, well. A girl can dream, can't she? :)
