Wow, that was a fast turnaround! :) The awards are unique, made with specially-commissioned fanart. Since they are rather large, I'm putting them behind a cut.
Yeah, it's always a nice surprise, though sometimes it's quite a surprise, and can take you aback if you're not prepared (as I've learned firsthand). lol
That's why I don't think I ever want to win Best Lemon, LOL...not sure how free and happy I'd be to share a very NSFW banner (like this term's was)...
I always like it more when the artists release the artwork before the banners are made, so I have some idea of what to expect (especially if I'm not familiar with them already).
Yeah, I only have a link to the banner on the post for the fic in question. I definitely did not feel comfortable posting it in public...

At this point I'll consider it a real shocker if I'm ever able to claim an award in a category outside of Best Mir/San or Best Alt Pairing Romance - I'm really envious of the people who have the skill to do so. Then again, aside from one notable exception that I've seen, it doesn't seem like any Mir/San fic can really do that, so I never know if it's my abilities that are lacking, or my choice in characters. Fandom is such a frustrating thing to try to understand...

I'mma go with option #2 ("my choice in characters"). Hopefully with the efforts we're making to raise the profile of Mir/San fic, it will be considered as worthy of something beyond 'Best Alt Pairing Romance' :) Believe me, you have the skills to win multiple awards, no question about that :)
