IYFF.com : Feature Story Banners

I've managed to hire myself out as a banner maker, LOL. This ought to prove interesting!

doggieearlover recently updated the "Featured Fictions" list over at InuYasha Fanfiction. To my shock and surprise, Memento Mori was added to the list! It proudly sits alongside a couple of my fave stories, Identity Crisis by

eggplantlady and Love's Smirking Revenge by

langus_fiction, as well as some Big Time Epics, such as Seven Feudal Fairytales. Talk about vaulted company!

To celebrate this update to the list,

doggieearlover decided to make "Feature Fiction" banners for all of the fics, and I offered to help her out. We're slowly but surely making our way through the list, and I couldn't stop myself from posting them here as well :)

I have to say, I'm particularly proud of...well, all of these. I even managed to snag a colored manga panel for one of them! Now I just need to find a stash of color manga, since I can't digitally color for shit :P

I am also signed up to make banners for

iy_fanfiction, the LJ comm attached to the website. We'll see how that works out as the mods get the logistics of the comm up and running again, but I'm excited for the chance to brush up on my ol' banner-making skillz.

The only thing I don't like about the site is that I have to go back and reformat everything - it double spaces everything and that drives me insane.

Thanks for the compliments on the banners! :) It's been awhile since I brought out the ol' Paint.NET setup, and the one for Langus's fic gave me absolute -fits-, but it was nice to be doing something artsy for a change. It usually helps the muses, as they have the back of my brain all to themselves to turn over ideas. (I've got a few for the prompt at

ebony_silks that I'm still trying to decide between :P)

I went ahead and made banners for

iy_fanfiction but there's been a bit of a snafu in the communications, so I have no idea if/when they will go up - but again, it was nice to practice. I set up a nice little template, so I'll just have to remember to use it, LOL!!

I like the banners! I've moved a few oneshots to the site but I'm just not ready to tackle something big.

Yes, you really have to be patient if you want everything to look right with a long & involved story. Once the work is done, though, its definitely worth it - it has a nice, clean, streamlined look, like Eternal Destiny's archive.

I have to be in the right mood to make sure everything formats properly, though - I'm an impatient sort, LOL!

Nice banners. You were able to capture two of my favorites: Sesshoumaru being hit by the Wind Scar and the last panel of 558.

The Sesshoumaru-hit-by-the-Wind-Scar is one of my favorite scenes in the anime, and it just seemed to fit with the beginning of Noacat's story. I was definitely lucky there :)

I wish I had more colored manga, but its hard to find, for sure! I have all of the last chapter, though, which I hope to put to good use with the banners for

iy_fanfiction :)

LOL, just kidding! :) I had such grand ambitions for that banner and alas, they were for naught :-/ but I hoped you'd enjoy what I came up with anyway. It's hard to find Kagome in clothes other than her uniform, and I wanted a rough and tumble pic of Inuyasha since he's definitely no softy in your hands!

It's been added to the story summary at IYFF.com...now you just have to finish updating there! :)

If you can post at ED, you can post at IYFF! ;) It's the exact same software (and thus, has the same formatting issues...). I don't get much in the way of reviews, but I do get a fair number of hits for such a small website. Plus, it's always nice to have your fics in front of more eyes!

LOL I've actually only posted Clinging to ED, so I didn't have to worry about formatting issues. I'll definitely try it, though! ^_^

You're right about having to take the time to reformat because of the double-spacing...
I've started putting my stuff there, though. Probably two or three chapters/one-shots a day until I catch up -_-;;

Hehe, I've only 'fixed' a few of my stories there, but I update there when I update everywhere else, haha. One day I will go back and make them all readable...

I really like the "paste from Word" feature. If I remember correctly, I don't believe ED has it... which means I have to go back and re-italicize everything.
I never realized how much I use italics until I did that...

LOL, I save all my fics as RTFs and paste directly into the box, lest I lose *all* my formatting. That way I just have one version of the document, which I can upload at MM.org or FF.net, or copy/paste at ED, Dokuga, or IYFF.

And yeah, I definitely abuse the italics tag. Damn morose characters and their rich inner dialogues, LOL!! :P

Then I was going through Pack Law and realized how much I abuse the *flashback* thing as well... but consoled myself with the idea that at least I make it really obvious without doing writing it straight out...

I didn't realize how much I use them until I started posting Fleeting here, and had to do all the tags. It's so much easier in word, you kinda lose track - its a pain to post long entries and recode for HTML here! :P

For all the awards its won, most of the accompanying banners have been just of Kagome. It was a treat to find a cap with both of them, since they are both integral to the story :)

Even the word "Photoshop" gives me hives :P I use Paint.NET ~ its free, and it has fabulous tutorials onsite, but most of the tools are pretty much trial and error. My talents are limited, but its fun to play around with them anyway :)

Have you ever used Paint Shop Pro? Is Paint.net anything like that? Is it easier to use? (PSP can be a real bitch sometimes...)

I've only ever used MS Paint and Paint.NET. When I was looking for a better piece of software than Paint, I trawled the interwebz to see what could be had. Of all the programs I looked at, this one was the simplest to acquire and understand. You have to play with the tools a little bit, but once you get used to them, its a snap. I've not had any issues that I couldn't go back and "undo" :P

Thanks for the link! I downloaded GIMP (also free) a while ago, but haven't been able to do much with it. Someday I'll have time to sit and learn one of these.

I found GIMP confusing, honestly :P But like I said, my creativity is not necessarily in the visual arts, haha. I'm more at ease painting with words.

But it is fun to have something else to tool around with. Sometimes the muses need the visual imput.
