Here's an example of voting that makes me go, "buh?" I actually rather liked this piece more than the one I submitted last week, which placed - while this one didn't. So - go figure *shrug*
Here lies excessive sappiness.
I was trying to think of a way to work a scenario down to 100 words; this was actually quite a nice prompt, but again with the word limits!! I threw in some Monarch of the Glen (<3 OMG British drama <3), specifically the marriage proposal from Series 3. It's a really powerful, heartbreaking scene, as Lexie rejects Archie's proposal, saying they could never be happy together because he's the laird whereas she is merely his housekeeper (although she is so much more than that - her romantic rival this season was a professional banker, though, so she was feeling especially bad about her chances with him). Anyway, her talk of the stark differences in their backgrounds and families put this idea into my head...
The dreaded "meet the parents" scenario, ratcheted up 100x thanks to meeting a set of veritable royalty, aheh. There wasn't much I could do for background here - 100 words only goes so far - but hopefully the dialogue I chose fills in some of the gaps. There are a lot of assumptions to be made, of course - that Sesshoumaru is a taiyoukai or otherwise royal-like figure, with powerful parents, just like in the canon world. I put special emphasis on Kagome's fear of meeting his mother, LOL, because, well - we all saw how SessMom reacted to meeting Sesshoumaru's child companions during the Hell arc!!
And, well, it wouldn't be Sesshoumaru without him getting in a dig at his sibling :P
Things take a turn for the interminably sappy at the end when the prompt word comes into play, as Sesshoumaru quiets Kagome with a simple touch and reassurance. Even though I don't think he'd ever be so...mushy?...in canon, the simplicity of the gesture and the strength of his words suited him, I think.
I kinda want to play with this a bit and expand it, but that would require the fluff muses to come out to play...and I can't have that if I want to work on Fleeting anytime soon :-/ We'll see what happens in the next few days, I suppose...
