First of all, a bit of necessary squeeage:

Statistics ahoy! )

Anyone who’s been reading this journal for some length of time will realize how much I <3 the metawriting. Author’s notes abound here – hell, that is the entire point of the exercise, to share the ideas behind the ideas, how I came to certain conclusions, what my motivations were for writing this character in that situation, and why I think it does (or doesn’t) work.

So you can imagine, in an undertaking so massive as this one – a simple thirty prompt challenge table that somehow morphed into an incredibly complex, multi-layered intrigue-laden serialized fic, that I’ve been absolutely dying, trying to keep all the meta inside. Just look at the lengths I go to for single drabbles, and you’ll have some understanding of my struggles, LOL.

But, it was a tradeoff – the suspense and drama that keep the readers coming back for more (more than one person has referred to this fic as their crack, LOL) would be completely and totally spoiled if I laid my thoughts bare after completing and posting each chapter. My favorite part of writing notes – dissecting the characters – would absolutely ruin the reading experience, as half the fun with this fic is trying to figure out who’s the most reliable narrator, what some of the characters’ motivations truly are, and if certain relationships can ever be repaired.

So, this won’t be one of my usual “here are my thoughts on yaoi” author’s notes posts. To do that would absolutely ruin both the readers’ enjoyment of the story, as well as my motivation for writing it. I truly enjoy the feedback I receive after posting each chapter, here and on the archives, as it really helps me see things through the eyes of my readers and helps shape the story in many sometimes surprising ways. You guys keep me on my toes, LOL, always trying to stay one step (or twist!) ahead.

But I’d still like the other part of writing author’s notes – keeping a log of references and personal motivations – for this piece. Thus, I’ve decided to compromise: have a little something for me, and let you guys in on some of the “inside stuff” of this story.

Points of interest… )

As the story progresses, I’ll be adding more bits and pieces to this post.

The master index for my 'Allegiance' series, which I'm expanding from drabble prompts at various contest comms. As I'm writing it in a very non-linear fashion, if you'd like to enjoy the story in order, here's the place to do it.

(It took me seven entries before I needed to make this post...a personal record, haha).

Summary: Strictly-come-canon, post-manga. Kagome is forced to seek out Sesshoumaru's protection in the wake of unexpected tragedy. As she insinuates herself into his life, Sesshoumaru comes to realize her second chance is also his, as her presence drives him to confront mistakes from his own past.

Note: In the original drabbles, the Rin storyline was almost completely left out, due to word constraints. It's something that has more or less unfolded as I've written the expansions of the scenes, and I feel it is extremely important to understand Sesshoumaru's actions (not unlike in the manga).

This year's [community profile] fandom_stockings have (finally) been revealed. Mine is here - and boy was I totally spoiled this year, haha. Not only did I receive 3 wonderful giftfics, but I also received recs for nail polish tutorials (yes!), a clutch of Clarissa-centric blog recs (Yes!), and icons from fellow fans of Jonathan Creek and Monarch of the Glen (YES!). I enjoy meeting new people who share my interests, so yays all around!

I ♥ this exchange because its the time when I'm mostly likely to receive things for the tiny fandoms of my heart, alongside the bigger fandoms of my heart, like BSC.

As per usual, I will post recs/author's notes for the few giftfics I gave this year in the coming weeks.

That being said, this is likely the last year I'm going to participate in [community profile] fandom_stocking, because the exchange is very poorly organized. It has single-handedly fueled my muses during the Christmas/holiday period for the last couple of years, but participating has become such a hassle that it'd be easier/more satisfying to gift things to the same folks, outside of the exchange.

Speaking of which - the [community profile] hetswap tagset looks very promising for this year, with multiple pairings from all of my major fandoms (including Inuyasha, BSC, and Sweet Valley) having been nominated quite early in the game. I nominated some things myself, but I was tickled to see so much possibility already there. There seems to have been something of a resurgence in desire to see IY canon pairings, especially - I'd love to see some of my IY fandom friends participate, just to be able to read new works by them (HINT HINT).

"Don't go pulling a Philip Kiriakis on me, all right?"

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about why I so immensely dislike the Jan’s baby storyline that defines Shelle’s senior year of high school – especially since the plot and relationship angst are quite similar to those at the heart of my IY fandom opus, Fleeting. They share similar characteristics: the girl’s sexual insecurity, the guy’s seemingly-noble secret-keeping, and the betrayal and angst that occur when they start to push each other.

So why is one so near and dear to my heart, while the other makes my heart hurt?
