VIZ to release unflipped manga starting July 2009
Along with the launch of RT's newest manga came the news that, starting with the release of volume 38 in July, the remaining portion of the Inuyasha manga will be preserved in its original, unflipped form and released monthly, culminating with a 3-volumes-per-book mega-release in November.
Read the press release here.
Honestly, I haven't yet read the first bit of RT's new manga, and I'm not sure if I really want to "move on" into another fandom. This one has more than its fair share of dramaz, but I'm not quite ready to board the RIN-NE train just yet. Initial reports make it sound like a Bleach ripoff (which I'm sure my Bleach friends will find amusing), and of course everyone's commenting on how much RT's character design hasn't changed, LOL.
We'll see - it certainly helps that VIZ did a fantastic job with the simulcast translation. But mostly, I'm excited for the news about the Inuyasha releases, which were stuck in a total glacial pace until now. Finally, it appears my collection will be completed within my lifetime, LOL! :P

As for RIN-NE. I will read it just like I have read Urusei Yatsura, Ranmna 1/2
and Inuyasha. I hope that it is more like Inuyasha which RT tells us is a quest story where the hero has to collect his companions, weapons and mature before he is ready for the final battle. UY and Ranma are fun but you can only tell the same joke so many times before it becomes stale. Whereas Kagome and IY make progress in their relationship, in UY and Ranma we reach the end and something suddenly forces the hero to admit their feelings for the heroine.

Frankly, I'm shocked they're giving Inuyasha such fabulous treatment in allowing it to ride on the coattails of her new manga. It doesn't seem like they're doing so much for her other releases...
Either way, I'm happy if it means I can get something closer to the original product in a timely manner!!
And, now that I've found some scans, I can finally read the new chapter :P

I'm ready to collect the rest of inuyasha! I'm glad that it'll be in it's original form.

I srsly squealed out loud when I saw the news on KK's journal about the Inuyasha releases (even though I've yet to find an easy place to buy it here). It's like manna from heaven!! To have all the canon at my fingertips, finally - I'm definitely looking forward to it!!

How awesome would it be if they were hardbound like those huge Fruits Basket volumes? And bigger pictures... woo!

*wibble* Your icon does not even come close. If it preserved the color pages as well? We're talking death-by-fannish-heart-attack, LOL :P

I wish she had done something closer to her Mermaid Saga. That was one she should have continued and expanded upon. It was dark but had the right amount of comedy thrown in and it wasn't the same old.
Pretty much I'm just in "wait and see" mode.

Plus the guy reminds me way too much of Inuyasha and Miroku - its very distracting, because I keep thinking, "No, they wouldn't do that!" :P
I haven't had a chance to read the Mermaid Saga (mostly because if I want to read it, I'm going to have to buy it, I think), but I want to. It sounds like it'd be more up my alley.

And, of course, the characters look like ... RT's characters. Personally, I like the red hair and eyes for the hero. I am SO glad he looks more like Inuyasha and/or Miroku than Godai and Ranma. (But I dislike the long braids for the heroine. *sigh*) The most intriguing part of the whole opening for me was that he expected her to pay for the "passage" of the dog and the "boy with unrequited love."
I am not a fan of any of RT's other works, and don't hold out hopes for her carrying off a romantic storyline I will enjoy. The best job she's done to date is IY, IMO, and I found it somewhat lacking, which is why I got into fanfiction in the first place. ^_~ (Yes, I know it's a shonen series, but I've read several with good romantic storylines.) I also HATE getting into something like this at the beginning because I KNOW how dang long it will take. (And I'm not a spring chicken. LOL!) I prefer to find a series which is finished so I can gobble it all up. However, having said all that, damn if I don't find the male character appealing, more for the potential I see in how she can portray him than in what we know at this point. I suspect I will know in a few more chapters whether this is one I will be willing to invest in. Until then, this is my "wait and see" icon. ^_^

But, in a way interesting, because it gives us a chance to check out series that may have done the idea better, before ;) I went back digging through the recs and found that I'd actually found the manga for Natsume - it's here if you're interested. It's not exactly the same premise, but close enough.

Hehe, I know what you mean! I've only read bits and pieces of her other manga, but a constant complaint was always the resolution of her romantic storylines. I can't say I was satisfied with any of the ones from Inuyasha, even though I supported the canon pairings all the way through. The final chapter was just too rushed for everything we went through to get it. (Plus I kinda hate that she never said one way or the other what the Sess/Rin relationship was supposed to be. Among other things.)
Inuyasha drew me in because of the storyline and characters, so its very much the exception to the rule, here. I've enjoyed reading/watching other series, but never really to the extent of getting into fandom for them. I doubt this one will be any different, really. But, we can never say never, I suppose :P

LOL, glad I called it right! ;)
My f-list as a whole is a bit more excited; I'm still ambivalent. We'll see.

...
And we see how that ended up, LOL. (Then again, I think fandom on the whole is dominated by women, no matter what the show/book/series.)
