Kikyou is my favorite character and her death scene always make me weepy. Ahhh I'm the biggest sucker for unrequited love and Inuyasha's reaction never fails to hit me hard.

Same here - it is, by far, my favorite death scene in the manga. RT's art is just absolutely gorgeous, and I love the way she lets it speak for itself - just pages and pages of art, with minimal words. *sigh*

I also liked the ending better. The song was fitting with the level of action (though there was some serious melancholy) and the red thread at the very end worked so well visually.

Yes! The red thread of destiny is prolly my favorite trope of the whole story, and that was a great way to end the episode, which a closeup of that. It makes me wonder if/how they'll handle the scene in the meidou at the end.

I think what's going to be important here is to remember the anime is essentially a different canon from the manga...it's too easy to get upset about what's left about, but when you think about it, the way they spliced things together here made sense, even if it wasn't "true" to the manga. I've seen some comments saying it felt rushed, and I didn't really have the same notion, though it might've just been the excitement of the moment :D I hope they are able to strike a balance between the action and the emotion, though, or else the last part of the canon story won't mean nearly as much.

I'd been checking shonensunday off and on through the afternoon, evening.

I've been away all day; I guess I managed to hit it at just the right time! If they stay consistent, this will be a pleasant way to spend a Saturday evening (and give me shameless opportunities to watch Community as well).
