Inspiration: “Already Gone” © 2008 Kelly Clarkson, Ryan Tedder

Sometimes inspiration comes from the strangest places.
I was hoping to do a lot more writing than I actually did over the weekend, but perhaps it was the combination of what was written that made me run out of steam. I had that piece of Allegiance hurtle out of nowhere (and, *sigh* I am powerless to resist a brooding Sesshoumaru, as I think we're all aware :P), and then this. I wrote the newest Allegiance installment on the back of beautiful inspiration from a Beyonce song, and in reading up on the backstory of said song, I realized that the tune was also used for another quite popular song - “Already Gone”, given to Kelly Clarkson. I'd never noticed the similarities between the songs before, but of course it really stands out if you listen to them back to back.
“Already Gone” has a more melancholic feel than “Halo,” which is to be expected, considering its lyrics...either way, I listened to the songs a couple of times, went to bed, and the next day woke up with a very heady romantic muse just dying to break out.
Perhaps its odd that I used this song for this piece, and “Halo” for the other, because they are pretty much exactly opposite from the content of the fics. But what can I say? My brain is weird sometimes. I was also quite in love with the end of the Beyonce video, and looking for a way to incorporate the image into something romantic and intimate. Hopefully, with this piece, I succeeded =)

“Already Gone” is appropriate for this piece because of the notion of sacrificing your love to save it, and that's pretty much exactly what Miroku and Sango were willing to do through the course of the canon story. The fact that they survived all that and made it through to be together is the sweetest sort of ending for a couple bound for - and by - tragedy. I tried to think of the turning point of their relationship, because I am of the opinion that it happened before - sincerely before - Miroku's rushed proposal, and of course was taken back to their time together inside Mt. Hakurei, perhaps the first time they vowed to die together instead of abandoning each other.
And, check it, what a coincidence that they were quite close during that scene, almost close enough to kiss :P
Unfortunately, this ate up all the fluffy romantic muse I had, so the other pieces in the pike had to be postponed...but hopefully they will get their due diligence soon. It's not often the fluff muse visits without its close personal ally the smut muse, so I have to take advantage where I can!
