Ultimately, the fandom should just make you happy. You don't have to wade through all that wank unless you like it (or you enjoy watching it unfold, LOL).
I'll tell ya - my current obsession? Has no fandom. Not even a category on FF.net. Its quite bizarre, but in a way, very refreshing. I don't have to worry about pleasing anybody but myself, which is a huge relief. No fanon = a very good thing, indeed.
There are plenty of other places to wankwatch, I certainly don't need to be involved in it myself!!
