A few gems from my f-list

I always approach April 1 with a bit of trepidation, but maybe because I've taken a huge step back from the ridiculousness of IY fandom lately (or maybe because I've jumped feet first into a childhood nostalgia fandom instead because of its sheer ability to make me insanely, pathetically happy), I was surprised at how many funny or positive comm posts have popped up today to celebrate this great Day o' Pranks :D (Isn't it sad how much being in a wanky, competitive fandom can condition you to simply expect the worst from a casual perusal of your friends list?)

First, there is the ~*BEstFicEVeR*~ post over at [livejournal.com profile] fanficrants. The post itself is only trumped by its comments, LOLOL. Do I smell a BNF in the making?

Then, we have the first of three posi-posts to [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets, which was led by a secret I could've made myself (though I didn't, sadly):

ETA: Part 2 | Part 3

Seriously, I've made some really wonderful, awesome friends via fandom, and I know I don't tell you guys how much I appreciate you often enough. So, consider yourselves loved, in pixellated form <3

Perhaps it wasn't fair of me to simply drop things completely and not really say "hey its me, not you" ~ so let me say it now: hey, it's me, not you. Fandom really does bring out the worst in me, especially when I'm under stress. So, if you've been wondering why I stopped reviewing your work or commenting on your journal or participating in general, that's why.

Right now? I'm not writing, I'm not reading, I'm not reviewing - BUT. Everybody's stuff that I usually read is going on this great big list of "reviewing to do" so that when I get back into IY fandom full-time again, I can literally pick up where I left off. I'm not giving up my resolution to leave better quality reviews simply because I need a vacation.

In the meanwhile, I've been working on something for another fandom that has made me downright giddy. I want to get closer to the end before I share it, because frankly? Its been nice to simply be writing something for me instead of feeling the expectations of others weighing on my shoulders as well. Its reminding me why I even got into fandom in the first place, which has been absolutely refreshing =)

Aw. <3

I feel the same way about all the friends I've made in the IY fandom, even when it got stressful and batshit insane. At least I have the friends I met.

THIS. SO MUCH. This is healthy. You're doing something you want, and the only expectation you have is your own enjoyment. If someone else gets enjoyment out of it too, then, that's a bonus.

Banners, contest placements, and slews of reviews are always nice, but sometimes they make people crazy, so it's nice to get back to why we're really writing in the first place.

*blunt* I thought you'd died.

Seriously though, it sucks when you get disillusioned by the fandom and need to take a step back to rest. Happens now and then -

I've been working on something for another fandom that has made me downright giddy.
SO happy for you. Ultimately, the fandom should just make you happy. You don't have to wade through all that wank unless you like it (or you enjoy watching it unfold, LOL).

*hugs*

Haha, I figured you might be taking a break from fandom, and that's totally cool. (Just don't be like me and disappear for two years, mmkay? :D)

It's awesome you're doing something for yourself - that's what makes writing fun and all! Take your time, get away from the stupid, and just know you are much appreciated just for being you regardless of whether you're posting a bunch or not. :)

And dude. I'm totally curious about what your childhood fandom is now. =P

Darn. My question was about this new fandom of yours, but I see you're not telling yet. ;)

I've also been dabbling, actually. I have a secondary account on FFN and everything. Of course, once I'm fully prepared to start some purely relaxing fic writing for a fandom and pairing that is both small and supportive, I'm struck by the actual *desire* to write my main IY fic. Not that I'm complaining! Just ironic, I guess, lol. It's so relaxing, isn't it? *happy sigh*

Have a fun break from the crazy! I do hope you won't go away forever. What will we do without an end to your fics? O.o But doing something for yourself is always rewarding, so I'm glad you're doing that. :)

I'm so glad your new old fandom is giving you so much love :) Kind of like spring cleaning, getting rid of all the IY wankiness.

^_^ Glad to hear things are going well for ya. It's amazing what some time away does for your state of mind and outlook on things as a whole.

And now I feel all sorts o' special to know what said fandom is, LOLOL

SO MUCH MORE THAN I SHOULD

I'm glad you're finding something to write that makes you happy, without all the wankery. That's what fanfiction should be.

I am grateful for my VL friends also! ((Huggles))

Glad to see you. You should always write for yourself and not for the fanpoodles. That way you can write what you want when you want to. The only problem that I have is that when you don't write I run out of reading material.

I'm happy for you :) Sometimes you just need a break. Good luck!

I can understand completely. Sometimes you have to step back and breath and decide what it is you really want. I'm glad to see you aren't throwing it away completely but do what you need to do to maintain your sanity.
