Meta meme: 30 Days of Shipping
The next chapter of Stacy in Bloom is clicking along, and looks like it might actually be somewhere in the neighborhood of 3K words. I'm not sure whether to be happy (that its almost done) or disappointed (that it's not a mega-beast like the last few chapters have been). I guess we'll find out when its done :P
Day 22 - A pairing you hate and no one else understands why?

BSC slash - One of the things that makes me shy away from BSC fandom online is the sheer amount of slash. This makes me sound like a bad person (like I don't like slash), but that's *really* not the case. The reason I object to it is more of a 'this is perverting my childhood' thing. (Pathetic alert here.) When I was a kid, I didn't have many actual, physical friends, and certainly none in my neighborhood (our development was fairly new back in the day). So my friends were only people I saw at school...and the characters I found in media, especially books. The BSC constituted my friends for a good part of my childhood, so I hold the characters - and the series - in very high regard. I never saw slash-y subtext in the books, and in a way, I think it's missing the point to pair the girls together. The girls were best friends, a bond it is quite difficult for young girls to make with each other, and I thought the series was a great example of how to have and maintain good, solid, female friendships. That's very rare, even in the world of girl series fiction (Sweet Valley or Gossip Girl, anyone?).
So, while I don't personally like BSC slash, pretty much all of the rest of identifiable fandom does (either the girls themselves, or some of the kid clients), and that's great - I'm just afraid its one point on which we'll never agree.

But I think it's, like, a rule of internet fandom: if there is more than one character, they will eventually be paired together (and bad pronz will be written about it, LOL).

Naraku/SessMom is pretty intriguing, I haveta admit. She'd totally dominate him, and I don't think he'd like that, LOL.

Also, I firmly believe in the Kinsey scale, but no one wakes up and says, "Alright. Gay for today!" Please! I need some logical progression of why Miroku is suddenly feeling up Inuyasha instead of Sango. Justify it! *sigh*
Good luck on your chapter though! :) Looking forward to it!

Yeah, I'll be the first to admit childhood fandoms have this veneer of comfort and safety to them - I think that's the basis of their appeal once we leave our kidlet years, LOL. Its fun to explore the world and think about what ifs, but there is a large contingent of people out there who love nothing more than to pervert their childhoods. Which, hey, good on them, as long as I don't have to partake :P

Hell, I need logical progression even for a canon ship that has a fucking roadmap. The part I'm interested in is how the pair gets together (and how they maintain it through adversity), not so much all the ins and outs of the confirmation of togetherness. Sometimes I think that means I'm doing it wrong, in that I'm interested in the emotions more than the sex, LOL.

Well, it's done for tonight...and hopefully it won't require much major rewriting *crosses fingers* I might have to give up on my weekly posting schedule, because I'm just not writing that fast anymore, but it sure was nice to build up that momentum....

Haha. Yeah... I don't understand that impulse. Maybe they want to adjust it for their maturing outlook on life? *shrugs* It seems like you could do that without making the nostalgic types run for the hills. But whatevs. To each his own and such.

Exactly. I just need something additional if you're going to make a character that is so far straight into one that is gay, just like I need additional explanation if a character who is part of a canon couple suddenly leaves that relationship for another.
And I think you're doing it *right* if you interested in emotions more than sex. That's a pretty good rule for life in general, actually. :P

*crosses fingers with you*

However...
I could kinda see it if it's written well and if they're older (and NOT with clients). Not interested in reading it, but I could see it being not too bad.
Hmm.

You have no idea how relieved I am to hear that, LOL. If you look anywhere for fic, a good bit of it is femmeslash - or slash involving one of the Pike triplets//Jeff Schafer. I...have no idea where that comes from, and I'd really rather not, truth be told o.O
The spectrum's pretty wide. I guess I just don't think of the BSC as being sexualized in any way - not even with all of Stacey's and Claudia's boyfriends, LOL.
*cuddles childhood*

That doesn't say I wouldn't be curious if like five people recommended me the same story or something, you know? But a whole slew of slash because it's cool and popular and there's not enough peen to satisfy people, well, I just don't think that's gonna hook me into the fandom.

Most of the BSC stuff I've seen recced hasn't been slash, believe it or not, which I guess is just another piece of cognitive dissonance.

Perhaps. And this is just like the big actiony manga series, too ~ series full of men as main characters are just going to get a lot of slash. Its the nature of the beast :P So in a way I'm not surprised that a lot of BSC fic is femmeslash, but at the same time...it seems like slashing for the sake of slashing.
*shrug* Different strokes for different folks and all that, I suppose.
