Is it just me, or has A03 been ass these last three-four days? I started posting SiB over there, to have an alternative place to read it since Fanfiction.net just finished being wonky, but I haven't been able to update in *days*, and it's incredibly frustrating. Four days, two emails, and two browsers later, I just gave up and deleted the thing. I never received a response from the admin team, which was disappointing. I'm not sure if potentially participating in Yuletide is worth the aggravation of dealing with that perpetually-in-beta-is-our-only-and-best-excuse archive *grumble*

Day 24 - A crazy love triangle/quadrilateral that worked out badly?



I'd definitely have to pick the longstanding Tommy/Jude/Jamie triangle that formed the core of Instant Star. This is not necessarily because my preferred ship (Jamie/Jude) didn't "win", but because by the time season four came around, none of them did. The show went in a seriously out-of-left-field direction by the final season, giving the ultra-cool Tommy this back story that really didn't fit him, and dragging out all this angst between the (until that point) incredibly long-suffering pairing with Jude. By the end of the series, Tommy and Jude had broken up, and Jamie was in his own improbable relationship with a younger fangirl he'd picked up on the way to making a name for his own record label. It just ended weird, and badly, and I'm not even sure the enduring friendship between Jamie and Jude stood the test of time. Very disappointing all around, especially after a very strong first season and two decently strong follow-ups. The show was canceled following season four, and the show writers knew it was coming, so they tried to cram everything they could into the S4 storyline and it was disastrous.

I've actually never heard of A03. Sounds like that saves me some grief though! I hate the perpetual beta thing.

The show was canceled following season four, and the show writers knew it was coming, so they tried to cram everything they could into the S4 storyline and it was disastrous.

Oh, I *hate* it when that happens! It sounds like they really muffed up a love triangle that had lots of potential in its resolution, too. Even when they manage *not* to screw things up completely, rushing things at the end tends to leave the series on an uneven and/or bad note.

"Archive of Our Own" - its been around for a few years, but they have never moved out of beta, which is one of the (many) reasons I was reluctant to have anything to do with it. But Yuletide as pledged its allegiance, and considering I'm still waffling about whether or not to participate, I figured it'd be good to at least be able to post if I did.

And then FF.net went on the fritz, and I figured - what the hell, why not?

It's not worth the extra hassle it takes to post over there if they don't even acknowledge there's a problem. For all FF.net's ills, at least the mods don't pretend to give a damn, you know? :P

Well, the triangle itself was kinda resolved at the end of season three/beginning of season four - Jude and Tommy finally slept together, which was the nail in the coffin of my ship :-/ But what they fucked up was the supposed happy ending they'd been working towards all along, what with all the hints and tease of the Tommy/Jude ship, from literally Day 1. How do you break up your canon pairing in literally the last episode?

Yeah. A lot of this fandom is also rewriting the ending, LOL.

See, that's the "lack of happy endings" thing I was talking about with you earlier. It seems like it's forbidden or something - maybe because "happy ending" is equated with "cheesy"? Either way, that's completely silly.

Yeah - any time I tried to post anything new, it logged me out instead. That gets really frickin' irritating after awhile. (And it didn't help that I was able to delete my stuff with far less issue...yeah, that makes me want to sing your praises *eyeroll*)

Hopefully it's just me and its not effecting anyone else, but I have no way of knowing...

I haven't tried on AO3 in a while - I'm on downtime with everything, LOL. I know a few of the people in charge, though, so I'll pass along the info that people are having problems.

Sounds like IS went downhill and that's pretty disappointing... Season 4 just sounds weird.

Please do - I don't send them emails (with helpful screenshots, even!) for my health. (And I can't say I'm going back until they get out of beta, if that ever happens...not that they care, mind, but that's how irritating it's been, especially with nothing but a snarky auto-response from their mail server.)

Season 4 just sounds weird.

It was - totally out of left field, dragging the show in a direction it didn't need to go in - and I'm not evening talking about the reality show sham marriage side plot involving half of Jude's backing band o.O

The show started off on such a high note and strong season, and just kinda steadily declined from there :-/ Definitely a disappointment, but at least it was put out of its misery relatively quickly.
