Day 27 - A pairing that you loved and ended up hating?

Well, I feel like I should qualify this by saying, I don't really hate any of my ships, even if I've maybe grown out of them...which was certainly the case for this one.


Logan Bruno/Mary Anne Spier, Baby-Sitters Club ~ Back when I was of age to read these (non-ironically, at least), I pretty much *was* Mary Anne: very shy, very introverted, and helplessly romantic. I identified a lot with her, so imagine my thrill of surprise when it was she and not sophisticated Stacey or Claudia who managed to find a sweet, steady boyfriend first. It's pretty much every shy, introverted, romantic girl's dream come true to have one of the hottest and most popular boys in school suddenly falling all over you, so Ann M. definitely got this one right. I shipped these two long and hard and right til the end of my reading days. I still enjoy it, truth be told, and enjoy reading fanfic or RP where these two are together in the future.

So why did I pick them for today's answer? Because I hated what canon did to them - especially Logan, but both of them. They break up for good in the post-BSC "Friends Forever" series, and though I haven't read it, it just kinda makes me sick. The post-100 books are sorta weird anyway, at least for me, because I never read that far when I was the right age. But the BSC series itself ends when Mary Anne's house burns down, and she loses literally everything but the clothes off her back. I just can't see her rejecting Logan at such a time of vulnerability (or vice versa), so it totally shattered my image of the BSC's Perfect Couple :-/ and it did dampen the shipping spirits somewhat.

And, I have to admit, Book #46 (Mary Anne Misses Logan) is one of my favorites, because of the very sweet interactions between Mary Anne and Pete Black...I guess I'll always have an alt ship for whatever my canon ship is, LOL.

I'm still Mary Anne, too, in a lot of ways...maybe if you mixed MA with Kristy's big mouth, LOL :P

On my re-read of the series, I'm just continually fascinated by Stacey and Claudia and Dawn, I have to admit ~ I guess because I was never like them when I was growing up. It's sorta like peeking into how the other half lives, LOL.

This meme amazes me. I don't think I've ever cared enough to ship this many pairings in my life. Evidently, I don't ship people much, or I read (or watch) and move on and flat out forget them...LOL.

Well, most of my answers come from a select few pieces of media, so it's not like I'm watching/reading a bunch of different stuff :P 85% of the answers to this meme are things I take seriously anyway, even if its not to the point of reshaping canon. I've consumed far more media than is represented here, LOL.

It only takes one pairing to capture your muse's attention, that's how ;)

Must be that...cause I doubt if I could talk about pairings that I care(d) about as pairings from very much...maybe 3 or 4 shows, and I'd probably have to look up their names...Evidently, I don't sort characters in my head that way all that much, where their love life and relationships become my focus.

Solving the problem, achieving the quest and saving the world, and the growth of the hero always seem to be where my focus lies. I always was a bit not mainstream.

Therefore, memes like this just seem amazing. My mind just doesn't go there.

LMAO, I totes understand :D That's what fanfic and RPs are for! :D (There was a fabulous RP here on LJ for a couple of years, until they shut it down...really scratched the itch I had for future!fic of the BSC girls. Mary Anne & Logan were an enduring part of that RP, and in some ways, the best part <3)

Yeah, Book #131 is "The Fire at Mary Anne's House" - and its definitely one of the better post-#100 books. They made a serious miscalculation with the "Friends Forever" series, tho, whittling the club back down to its original core and shifting the focus from their friendships and bonds forged via baby-sitting to the typical, catty, tweeny-middle-school experience. I've only read [snarky] recaps of the books, but they sound terrible, and the series only lasted 12 books or something like that D: In my head canon, it doesn't exist, LOL.
