Meta meme: 30 Days of Shipping
Sometimes I wish my muse would stick to the plan. I'm hoping to spend this weekend catching up to its fancies within the Stacy in Bloom universe, but instead, it seems more content to start outlining an equally long sequel story *facepalm*
One at a time, plz, one at a time. There's still a lot of fluidity in this story that needs to be hammered out, before we can start talking "sequel." (Plus there's this little matter of four other unfinished WIPs to consider...)
Yet, admittedly, it's a rather nice problem to have :) There are a couple of other oneshot ideas floating around up there as well, so at least its keeping me busy. Even if my audience consists of one person, that hasn't diminished my love for this story or this universe in the least. This is why I love mining childhood nostalgia <3
And oh, hey, I'm almost done with the shipping meme!
Day 29 - What ship had the best proposal?
If we're talking sheer romanticism, it has to be the final proposal Gus Pike made to Felicity King on Road to Avonlea. Oh, be still my beating heart! <3
Road to Avonlea was the television adaptation of LM Montgomery's books, set in the Anne of Avonlea universe. It ran on the Disney Channel in the early 90s, and was another *huge* hit for the channel on the back of imported content (yay Canada!). The show had an ensemble cast, but a big part of that was the King family. Felicity was the eldest child of said family, and longed to be considered a prim and proper adult (to the point that she was a little snot when she was a kid). She had big dreams for herself, dreams that decidedly not include vagabond Gus Pike, who had no family and no home to speak of - he just showed up during the second season, looking for work.
Their friendship and courtship was long and complicated, as they circled in and out of each others' orbit for years. Gus gave Felicity her first kiss, but it took them a long time to come around (and for her parents to come around to the idea of their daughter, destined for college, marrying a wayward sailor with an uncertain future). Gus never felt like he was quite good enough for Felicity, so before he agreed to marry her, he wanted to set sail and make his fortune, so he had something to offer her. (It was the early 20th century - that's just how things were done.)
He was shipwrecked and presumed dead, so for the final season of Avonlea, Felicity is trying to sort her heart out and move on, even though she can't quite let go of Gus. Then comes the news that he survived, and is alive somewhere in the southern US - and she sets off to find him, leaving behind another fiance. He's blinded by his accident, but Felicity persuades him to return to Avonlea, where he has a successful surgery that partially restores his sight...and they are married in the final episode.
Mmm, gothic historical romance at its finest. I love this show so much, and this ship was certainly an enduring part of that love <3

It's a lot of fun to contemplate - sometimes more fun than it is to write, LOL. I'm excited about how things are coalescing, though, especially considering it's only been a week or two since I was in the midst of a very dry spell :-/

Mine's doing the same thing right now. Should I work on this story or that...Pink says both! And try this one on for size while you're working on the others...My brain is butterfly syndrome always...

I'm resisting...but it's not doing much good, LOL. I guess because there's very little KI fandom out there, there's nothing to satisfy the urge except writing it myself. But I can't write it all at once! :P And it'd help to know exactly what the events of the current story will entail before I attempt to start shaping up a sequel, you know?
Plus the IY muses are starting to knock on the door...

I am having fun! =) Just had another (workable) idea that I'm looking forward to implementing! *happy dance* I like it when things come out this easily.

Glad to know you've been reading, though! =) I'm really hoping to set aside some time for an IY story very soon. I already know how they all end, it's just a matter of having the time and attention span to actually write it out!

Anyway, they do seem really sweet. You know I love a good cross-class romance! Especially if it's historical!
Yet, admittedly, it's a rather nice problem to have :)
Envy. I haz it.
LoL. But that's a fun problem! I love those rare moments - not like you feel focused, but at least it's productive? Looking forward to the results either way. I still need to read the latest chapter of SiB too.

LOL. What can I say? The past is a pretty nice place to play :)
I love those rare moments - not like you feel focused, but at least it's productive?
Well, I don't exactly feel productive, so much as hopeful. Having clear thoughts and ideas for things far into the future is only making me want to write that instead of what it's going to take to get there. But yeah...had another idea blossom last night, for another far-off chapter, but it's very exciting, because I have to lay the ground work now...and I'm pulling in a bit more 80s culture to do it.
I'm looking forward to your thoughts on the NYC stuff, since you're my resident expert and all ;) Just know I did a fabulous amount of handwaving for some of this, LOL!! It's hard to be authentic about stuff that's 20 years old and not even there anymore o.O
no subject
Hehe. I look forward to it!
I totally understand about the authenticity thing. I mean, they're always saying that NYC is this living, breathing city where things change. It's very true and can be very jarring even to someone familiar with it, lol.

And, well, it's 1988. Isn't that like asking for blanket forgiveness anyway, LOL? :P

I always loved Anne of Green Gables, but and I remember watching a bit of Road to Avonlea before I lost track of the show. (I think maybe we didn't get the channel anymore or something) So I'm totally going to look them up. I wouldn't mind rewatching my Anne of Green Gables videos again someday. :)
That ship sounds touching btw.
I'm jealous that you're almost done with the meme, lol. It's crazy long!

I hope so. I've been very lucky in that when one of them strikes at work, I can quickly scribble some notes, so I don't lose the idea completely. Then it just becomes a matter of making sense of all my notes, LOL :P
I keep a list of all my ideas and go back to them. I guess it helps when you have a block. :)
Perhaps - but when I have a block, I have nothing D: I hate it, but it does give me a chance to catch up with the rest of the world, I suppose. I just wish I could find some happy medium between furious 6K scribblings and nothing o.O
I'm totally going to look them up.
Yay! Like I said, quite a few episodes are on YouTube. I love the show and the way you can just immerse yourself in the setting. I really, really need to marathon it one of these days ~ perfect escapism <3
I'm jealous that you're almost done with the meme, lol. It's crazy long!
I know! You have NO IDEA how happy I am to almost be done with it, LOL!!
