[livejournal.com profile] 7snogs prompt table here. Note: my claim hasn't actually been accepted by the mods over there yet, but I like the idea, and I liked the prompts so much I decided to write this anyway. If/when it's accepted, I'll post the entries to the community as well.

Considering I'm an avowed helpless, hapless romantic, a sucker for platonic-to-romantic relationship growth, *and* I have a weakness for fluff and squee, it should probably come as no surprise that I'd write a lovey-dovey story revolving around kisses for Valentine's Day. The [livejournal.com profile] 7snogs challenge is this: you can interpret the prompts however you wish, but the story must contain a kiss in some way, shape, or form.

My twist on this is that my main character - Stacy - would *not* be on the giving or receiving end for each of these kisses. How does that work, you ask?

Observation shapes perception just as much as personal experience, and that's what I'm counting on to launch this serial. I'm quite excited about this, because it's several challenges all rolled into one. Each ficlet is (1) SHORT, with none of the entries exceeding 2000 words, save the last one; (2) completely resolved, thus reading as its own separate story just as much as an entry in a serial, and (3) so light and fluffy I almost put myself into a diabetic coma writing them, LOL.

I was also able to utilize some of the ideas I generated with my 50 sentence set writing exercise from last year, which is always exciting! =)

These seven little stories are told in chronological order, a sort of 'hitting the high points' take on writing a longer, more involved relationship running its course. We'll start with a time before Stacy is even interested in romantic love, and end with some post-canon goodness and a peek into my head-canon.

Prompt #1, Absurd, is set during the first part of season 3, specifically episode 3, "Crush on You." The premise of the episode is that Renee is nursing a crush on one of her classmates, only she has no idea what to do about it - how to talk to him, or even how to make the somewhat embarrassing feelings go away. Stacy and the Kid tease Renee about "having a boyfriend" in that oh-so-elementary way, upsetting Renee immensely. Stacy is just concerned about her sister, though, because she's acting really weird and spacey at home. Once they realize how much their innocent teasing has hurt Renee, both Stacy and the Kid are quick to apologize.

So, for my first kiss, I actually chose Renee's first kiss, which happened at the end of the episode. The rest of the Kids are watching Renee and cheering her on (she's decided to talk to her crush at the P*lace, conveniently enough!), and of course the other band members understand what a monumental moment it is for her. Stacy and the Kid, though, as the youngest, just think it's kinda gross.

This was definitely setting up a little bit of that pride, before the fall, with an oblivious and rather immature character declaring she's never going to fall in love and act so stupid. Famous last words, LOL...

Each subsequent prompt builds on the last, and is just a bit longer than the previous one. This first prompt is a nice, compact 500 words, the perfect bit of cotton-candy-for-the-brain to lighten your day. I know it's certainly lightened mine :)
