Yay, squishy happy romantic fluff! LOL. This chapter actually only contains half of what I wanted it to, but it was starting to run over (and I realized some things couldn't be glossed over), so here we are :) There are lots of musical references this week, so let's get right to it!

[+] The title track was a cover of one of Taylor Dayne's two biggest 80s hits, performed by Stacy (of course!). This is from episode 5x10, "The Frog Prince":

Unlike her other Taylor Dayne cover, this one does have a few "Disneyfied" lyrics. All in all, though, I'm kinda shocked they covered these songs on this show, LOL.

[+] The bassline to the Four Tops song "Bernadette" is probably one of James Jamerson's best known Motown-era pieces. It's not often that a bassline outshines the rest of the instrumentation on a pop song, but that's definitely the case here. Even in the original recording, it stands out - but, being a bass player myself, this was the actual inspiration for slipping this in here:

This guy is amazing. And if you don't believe me, watch this and prepare to bow down, goddamn o.O

Of course, this scene does require a little bit of suspension of disbelief. What are the odds that the ancient/nearly forgotten electric bass guitar lying around in any high school equipment room is left-handed? But, I think it's plausible that Ryan could actually play a song like this, even though it is pretty complicated. Starting on guitar would aid with the ability to use multiple fingers on multiple strings, basically plucking out a funky melody line, instead of the more traditional rhythm line. There is some evidence in canon that Ryan switches to bass in this, his final season, and he's been known to pick a guitar line in his day, too.

I also chose the song because of the lyrics, which I thought would maybe inadvertently display a bit of Ryan's ongoing angst.

[+] The Kids never actually covered this song, but again, I liked the lyrics, and I could totally picture something fun and flirty, bringing all of the boys to the stage, LOL:

[+] Ryan's triumphant return solo is the very same song that titled Chapter 16. Incidentally, it's also from episode 5x10, "The Frog Prince":

The kids (including Stace) did 'Come See About Me' in season two, episode nine 'One Glass Slipper', actually. Just wanted to clear that up!

Loved it!

Just wanted to say that I loved this chapter (like all the rest)!! You write Ryan and Stacy so well. I am anxiously awaiting more chapters, lol. I keep checking everyday to see if there are anymore, haha. It's funny because I hadn't thought about Kids Incorporated in years until I came across this website. It was my favorite show growing up, and I have really enjoyed reading all of the Kids Inc stories but I must say "Stacy in Bloom" is my favorite. You are such a talented writer and you make the story come alive! I am looking forward to reading about their date. I bet you will make it good :)
