Fandom History & Inspiration Meme - Day 3

Better late than never? LOL.

Day 3 - For each of the fandoms from day two, what were your favorite characters to write?

Hmm...this could get long...

Inuyasha
Definitely Sesshoumaru. He's my favorite character of all time for this series, and I love digging into the layers of his character, trying to find his motivation, the way he ticks. He holds his cards so close to the vest that interpretation of his characterization could go any way, but its precisely that sort of latitude that makes me so very picky about reading the way others write him. The members of my f-list at least get it in the ballpark; most of you write him in a very enjoyable way ([livejournal.com profile] langus_fiction especially).

I also enjoy writing for Sango, Miroku, and Kikyo, and each present their own unique challenge...but they all pale in comparison to my love for Sesshoumaru, LOL.

Kids Inc
Ryan and Stacy, definitely, are at the top of my list. I like everything about them, both as individual characters and as a pairing. Ryan is so calm and steady, very thoughtful and intuitive and very much a problem solver, whereas Stacy is the bundle of emotions we all know teenage girls to be :) Stacy probably has the most depth of all the characters on the series, simply by virtue of being able to watch her grow up over the course of her six seasons. Ryan got some great development in his first couple of years, before it tapered off as he assumed the male lead. Both they're both a lot of fun to play with :)

I also love writing for Kid, Renee, and Gloria - sort of the "Golden Era" cast. They're all versatile and wonderful, and I feel I "know" them better than any of the younger cast members - even members from the season I'm writing in most, LOL!!

Baby-sitters Club
Ahh, the (older) Thomas brothers - yes, they are my favorites, both to read and write for :) I don't know if I can explain my love for them, considering they were very much side characters in the books, but I just love the dynamic they developed as kids, holding the family together after their father walked out on them. Charlie is the big brother I wish I had, and Sam is the nerdy dork I would've crushed on in high school, LOL :P I think there's a lot to explore there, in their similarities and differences to Kristy and the other younger kids.

My favorite baby-sitter is Stacey, and I enjoy writing her. So often in fandom she's protrayed as a backbiting slut, which just makes me sigh and roll my eyes. There's so much more there, so much complexity and depth that was lost as the series barreled on into the Lerangis years. I don't think she gets a fair shake a lot of the time, so I enjoy writing her as I see her, perhaps with some of those tendencies banked back a little :P

General Hospital
Maxie Jones, definitely! She's unlike any other female character I've ever been attracted to in the writerly sense. She's basically a mass of contradictions, with a long, drama-filled history of mistakes and missteps. I love her attitude, though, and how she barrels on without hesitation, going after what she wants - even if what she wants most is to protect her heart from breaking once again.

Jonathan Creek
Jonathan Creek himself, for sure. He's so much fun, but incredibly difficult to get "right" - after all, he thinks in ways normal people don't, so its hard to wrap my mind around him. But he's quirky and fun and has surprisingly intriguing nooks and crannies. Mostly I feel like I can't do him justice, which is why it takes an extraordinarily long time for me to complete any works starring him.

Ouran High School Host Club
Well, I only wrote one oneshot for this fandom, but my favorite character was definitely Kyouya. I don't know how well I wrote him, but I like to think my experience with Sesshoumaru helped, LOL.

Reading this is really tempting me to modify this into a fanart meme... it wouldn't be hard to do, actually!

I decided to go for it. My first three days are here along with my modifications of all the days for fanart: http://kriscynical.livejournal.com/442713.html
