Day 10 – Pairings – Have you ever gone outside your comfort zone and written a pairing you liked, but found you couldn't write, or a pairing you didn't like, and found you could?
I'm not completely sure what this question is asking (awkward wording FTW), but I'll attempt to answer it anyway :) I have written a pairing that I don't personally like - I wrote a Sess/Rin piece back in 2009 for
langus_fiction, My Innocent. It was a challenge, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. More importantly, she liked it! =) And it's her story that's bringing me around to the idea of this as a legit pairing, but I'll probably never write it myself again.
I've also pushed the boundaries of my comfort zone with a pairing that I do adore, and that was a challenge in a different way. KeB wanted a spicy story as her giftfic for leaving my 50th review on Stacy in Bloom, and that was a very interesting experience, detailed here. I'm still on the fence about how I feel about the original story, but the ability to add to this universe is helping me like the story as much as the recipient did.
I don't write for characters or pairings I have no interest in, so I have no idea if I could write them well or not. Probably not, because I think part of what makes stories so imminently readable is the author's own interest in what they're writing. Enthusiasm is contagious in that way, LOL.
