It was a close call, but Chapter 15 has been posted. Hurray! Curious about my turns of logic? Click through...
Where did I come up with the names? It's all linked back to the inspiration for Snegura...
Next chapter will feature Sango/Miroku/Kohaku. Originally, the plan was for Chapter 14 to feature both storylines, but the scenes revealed themselves in more detail than I was anticipating. Considering I'm ridiculously long-winded and verbose, maybe this shouldn't have been such a big surprise :P

The story is finally starting to rise to the climax. In this chapter, Kagome learns the secret of the jewel, and (hopefully in keeping with the spirit of the rest of the manga) it's mostly mental. This was not something I'd planned from the beginning, but I was fortunate enough to leave the details vague in the first six chapters, so I didn't have to go back and rewrite anything. Yay fuzzy brain logic!
I was hoping to portray Kagome's problem realistically in this chapter. Though I firmly believe she belongs with Inuyasha's group, obviously modern life has some sort of appeal for her. Being forced to stay for a three-month period would reintroduce her to the "normalities" of life, and she'd be tempted to give up her personal quest and slip back onto the easy path. She's only human, after all; no matter how saintly the manga or anime makes her out to be, she does have a breaking point. Her connection to Inuyasha and her other comrades is the only thing preventing her from choosing this path. Who wouldn't be flattered if told they were worthy of love (Takao Nishikori) or immensely talented (Olympic athlete with ambitions of a professional career)?
The second scene, the revelation of the true meaning of the powers, will hopefully help accelerate the plot. I referenced two plot points of the manga, the Noh mask from the early volumes, and the all-important "Right Wish" chapter from last year. Now that Kagome knows the truth, she can return to the past all the sooner, ready and willing to fight and protect those around her. I probably won't write another modern-day scene for her; the next time she appears, it will be the Big Reunion Chapter.

My other passion is professional tennis, and there has been a small explosion of raw talent onto both the men's and women's tours. One of the newest intrigues is Japan's own (by way of Florida) Kei Nishikori. I wasn't comfortable using his actual name in the story, but I really like the roll of his last name off the tongue. The real Nishikori is pretty cute, but that's probably all the resemblance the two bear towards each other :)
