First of all, an acknowledgment. Here are the inspiration pics for Sesshoumaru's traveling costume: (1) (2). Especially #2, I wanted to capture the intensity of his golden gaze. It appears that these were drawn in accordance with another fanfic, so that just goes to show how we all inspire each other :)
Meanwhile, the next chapter is one we've all been waiting for (including me!!) - the Big Reunion between Inuyasha and Kagome. They are the final pieces of the puzzle, so the epic can't be wrapped up until they are together once more and fighting side-by-side :)

This was an important chapter, because it signals the start of the final arc of the story. Sesshoumaru agrees to enter into an alliance with Snegura, but she insists that he come and get her. This makes him mad; no doubt she was supposed to come to him and not vice versa. After all, he's doing her the good turn here, no?
No. Actually, her grandfather has been recently murdered, in a skirmish at the borderlands between Ryutatsu's Mongol holdings and her swath of ice and snow. As we know, Ryutatsu is fighting to get back to the sea, where he can be healed of his battle wounds, and then he is heading back to the House of the Moon to seek the jewel and his vengeance on Sesshoumaru. Killing Ded Moroz was his revenge on Snegura, who dismissed his suit out of hand and forced him away from the precious healing waters.
The big question is, what is the reaction to Snegura? I've tried very hard to stay away from Mary Sue territory, but it's hard to design a character to match with Sesshoumaru without going a little overboard. Hopefully I've made her a mystery, not an annoyance.
The contrast of scenes between Sesshoumaru's interactions with Rin, who has a huge crush on him, and with Snegura, who occupies the enviable (?) role of his intended bride, was intentional. He is quite attached to the former but has no inkling of her romantic feelings for him. That scene during the storm was a bit of homage to the Sess/Rin shippers that I seem to have attracted. I turn away no readers!
