Holy...shnikeys! Yes, it's finally here! I'm probably more relieved than you are...seriously.

I've been trying to write this chapter for the better part of a week. I've been penning drafts and chucking them, wondering if I could ever get the feel for the ending right. It didn't help that I was away from all fandom for the better part of this month thanks to a gigantic move. But, this story was never far from my mind. I've always had a hard time finishing what I've started, and I really set myself up this time. I wanted this battle to be as epic as the rest of the story was...so I didn't want to be too hasty with what I posted.
So, finally, all parties have converged. The knots of the plot are slowly being untangled, even as new questions are popping up (like, WTF is up with Ryutatsu?). It's very hard to write out a battle scene when you have five different points of view to consider; hopefully, what I ended up with makes the most sense. I normally hate hate hate POV hopping with a passion, but here, it was necessary...if only to keep scene breaks to an absolute minimum.
This method of writing is probably influenced by my heavy viewing of the anime. Since I was limited as to what I could bring with me in my move, I decided to only bring the anime (I can read the manga online, when my internet isn't acting all pissy :( ), and I've been watching it -- in order -- to rediscover the feel for the series. I was especially interested in the battles they fought, trying to really suss out how the were planned and acted. To that end, I've done the best I can; battles aren't my forte unfortunately.
It was always the plan to end this chapter on a cliffhanger, and continue the battle in the next chapter. You'd think I'd write both chapters together to enhance and streamline the feel of the battle, but that is not the case, haha. Only parts of it are coming to me, and I fear if I waited to write out the complete end of the story it'd be another month before I'd be able to post anything (!).
I can't believe I'm almost at the end of this story. When I started this way back in March, the end was always in sight, but it was pretty open. I've worked pretty darn hard to ensure the ending...well, exists, honestly. Most of the work I wrote when I was younger is still unfinished, as I was unable to resist the muses for very long.
Hopefully doing contest prompts will help me in these regards :)
And, never fear, for those few who are fans of this world...there will definitely be a sequel. I've had the opening scenes in my head almost as much as I've had this final battle, and these characters are demandingto be emo to be heard! The only question right now is, will it be purely Sesshoumaru-centric, or will the other two couples factor in? I haven't decided; right now, I'm only getting Sesshy's storyline.
I'm sure quite a bit of it will depend on how the epilogue of Every Heart goes.
