iyfic_contest Week 157 | First Kiss (1st Place)

And now for something completely different...
When I first saw this prompt, I thought, "Damn!"; I've only just written a first kiss fic for the most obvious pairing (Inuyasha/Kagome), which was not eligible for entrance into this contest (all works must be original for the challenge). Cue the same feelings for the suggestions for the new few weeks' worth of challenges (Mary Sue/badfic/high school AU) -- talk about hitting close to home of late!
So, I've been debating what I could write this week...the word limit was a minimum, set at 250, so that wasn't an issue, but I really didn't want to go for the obvious pairing here. I've just finished a pair of AU fics (Memento and the rather popular expansion, Memento Mori), so I wasn't digging an AU scenario, either. So, I went back to my strength -- canon manga.
This idea isn't a new one; in fact, I thought about adapting one of my older fics for the premise. I've done a Sess/Kagura fic already -- Heaven -- which I really enjoy, and I thought, why not? It's a fabulous chapter, full of inspiring art, so I tweaked the concept a little.
In this little drabble, Kagura has a real reason to smile as she floats away to her death...instead of standing like a lump on a log and considering swiping a sword at her, Sesshoumaru kisses her goodbye and holds her body as it disintegrates. The dialog of the chapter still fits, and I really like the result :)
