ZOMG...can we talk about how hard it is to find a non-slutty prom dress these days?!

So, this is the fruit of the first part of my labor on a sequel to Memento Mori. I thought, why not use this prompt to work out a plot bunny or two? It was also a chance to experiment with an idea I had for said sequel, to tell the next part of the story from Inuyasha's point of view.

This was a challenge for a few reasons, the biggest of all being, I seriously wrote myself into a corner with Memento Mori. It was completely from Kagome's point of view, and there was not even a twinkle in my eye for a sequel, so I didn't worry so much about the motivations I was laying on Inuyasha in that piece. But, since I am a pushover, and since I'm pretty intrigued by this universe, when I started thinking about how I would approach a sequel, I hit upon the idea of switching POV.

I'm glad I did this piece; I especially like the symmetry of the opening third with the opening scene of Memento Mori. However, in working on this story, I realized that it would be easier to describe the events I've plotted for the sequel from Kagome's POV. So, basically, to make a long, extremely complicated story short, this IS NOT the sequel to Memento Mori, but it is of the same universe, like a little "bonus" :)

ETA: I have decided to post a slightly altered version as an interlude in the Memento Mori storyverse, and this will be the official "author's notes" entry for that piece as well.

The prom scene will be included in the final chapter, because obviously something happened that made Kagome cry, which wasn't explained in this piece. On that, let me just say...wow. It's been awhile since I was in high school, and I freely admit I never went to my proms (if you knew my classmates, you'd know why!), but...is it possible to find a prom dress that isn't terrifically slutty nowadays? I'm talking splits up to the thigh, plunging necklines, backless, stomachless, WTF?! So, yeah; searching for the titular dress was harder than I anticipated.

But I did find one! :) Linked in the original LJ entry, here's what finally matched the vision in my head.
