Yes, if the vote numbers are in the ( ), then that is a pretty small turnout for this rather large and lively group. But nothing terribly surprising.

Some of the results made me grind my teeth (not because I lost, or any of my noms did, but just a bit of...WTF ARGH), but that's life. *shrug* I've accepted that I'm on the fringes of this particular corner of fandom, and am content to be happy for those people whose work I enjoy who are actually in the thick of things :)

I guess I was not surprised at the results. I started reading SK over at IYFG
so that I could vote on those stories. I continued the practice of reading award stories and my friends stories. There may be stories that I do not like but if you look at the number of reads you knew that they were going to win from sheer volume. It is really not a surprise that familiar names such as
Lady Battousai, forthright, Priestess Skye, youkaiyoume, piratequeen0405,ilovesilverhair.tallymark, rosieb and elegant paws won awards.
They have also won awards outside SK. I think that you are more familiar than you would think. Many of your votes probably came from the same people who vote for the Weekly Perfection. They have awarded you many banners there and were happy to vote for you at Dokuga Awards.

But I mean, let's face it, all any awards group really does (no matter what they assert) is essentially award popularity. Yes, Langus told me I was old hat at Sess/Kag by now, to which I literally went, "Uh, what? Really?!" I don't consider myself a fandom veteran yet, much less an expert at a pairing I've only been writing half my time here!

I know I'm sounding more and more ungrateful as this thread goes on, but that is entirely on my own head. *hangs head* The people at the

dokuga_contest group are, on the whole, fabulous. A couple of them supported me right from the start, and were part of the reason I ultimately decided to stay, despite some...troubles I ran into behind the scenes there. I don't think there's that much overlap between said group and the website, however - the people who write for the group and won big on the website also have *huge* followings outside of LJ.

Whoever nominated/voted for me does, of course, have my undying gratitude and support - I would hope that goes without saying :) If I'm more well-known than I think, its only because I don't see any familiarity reflected back at me in number of reads or amount of feedback I receive on that particular site.

That's one thing I don't like about the nomination process there - we're not able to see the duplicates and make other decisions. Of course, considering voting was way down, maybe having more choices on the ballot isn't necessarily a good thing...

Thanks! :) Considering I get little-to-no-feedback on the work I post there, I'm shocked I even managed third place. It was nice to have Fleeting recognized as a collection :) and "Promise", well...don't think I could've done better by poor Sess in that piece.

I think you did great. You know you are one of the few (very few) Sess/Kags writers I even read! If you could open my eyes to the possibility, that says volumes! LOL! (well, at least to me!)

That's the irony of it - people outside hardcore Sess/Kag fandom tend to enjoy my stuff (and are willing to tell me! Geez, do I need to wear a sign or something?!), whereas the folks that inhabit Dokuga are less likely to even notice I'm there. I think you guys here at LJ (and MM.org, and FF.net) are awesomesauce, because even if I know where and how I want to continue the various series, and will do so whether or not anybody reads it, it's always nice to have a little encouragement every now and again, you know?

So basically this is me being surprised/shocked/bitter at actually placing in these awards, considering the rather low profile I keep there.

Maybe it's because you don't portray Kagome as the wronged victim who runs to Sess to be saved. Or it could be because you don't portray Inuyasha as this vicious out of control freak who chooses Kikyou in front of Kagome or tries to kill Kagome or is so stupid he doesn't know his ass from his elbow.

Or... maybe it could be the fact that you allow Sess to grow into his changes instead of never changing. You can make see what is going on behind the mask and most Sess/Kags writers never do. They just stick with the victim/dumbass role and that's it. Some people will never change their views.

Yeah, I can understand why you don't feel quite 'in synch' with some part of the dokuga community, but honestly... I don't think they represent a majority of people there... they just speak... louder -_-;
