Many congrats to the winners from my flist: knittingknots, doggieearlover, selinamac, piratequeen0405, psyco_chick32, pos_sess_ed, kmoaton, & flametwirler!!

This quarter there was an average of 58 voters (1038 votes across 18 polls). The most popular categories were Best Completed Serial (76 votes), Best Drama (74 votes), and Best AU/AR (71 votes), whereas the least popular categories were Best Poem (36 votes) and Best Songfic/Poemfic (43 votes).

Every other category, aside from the last two, garnered at least 50 votes. Compared to last quarter, this is a rise in overall voting (up 154 total votes), and it's really nice to see some strength behind the polls once again. Every category had a double digit winner; in fact, save for 3 (Best Drama, Best Poem, Best Short-Short), all of the placements received at least 10 votes. Considering last quarter's numbers, this definitely feels like a step in the right direction.

There were only a few outright landslide victories (which I count as +10 vote differential between 1st and 2nd places): Best Completed Serial (+17), Best Darkfic (+12), Best AU/AR (+11), and Best Characterization (+10).

Three categories were decided by one vote (+1): Best Canon, Best Crossover, and Best Poem.

All other categories ranged from (+2) to (+7), which is probably to be expected, given the number of choices and the number of overall votes.

I look forward to comparing these numbers, along with the last poll of the year, to see how much voting has fluctuated and how, if at all, that's tied to the end of the canon manga (in June) or the completion of a few "big" stories.

I've only been compiling voting statistics from the last three quarters (and I'll probably go and look up the ones from 1Q08, for the sake of completeness) because I'm interested in the participation trend. What sorts of stats would you like to see for noms/DQs? I'd be happy to dig around, if there's interest.

I was curious about the numbers of nominators and seconders, how many fics had multiple noms, total number of DQs, which categories were hit hardest and least, successful appeals, etc.

I'll have a look into that when I have the chance/time, for sure. Perhaps when Best of 2008 voting ends, I'll have a nice little package of stats to present, encompassing the whole process from nomination to final vote.
