The smutty fluffy muse strikes again! And yeah...this is all Fleeting's fault...
This piece came out of nowhere. I had an idea to do a sequel of sorts to my entry last week ("Sweet Sorrow"), but it didn't really go anywhere. I found this prompt very difficult to write for, and, in fact, if I hadn't been doing research for Fleeting, I probably wouldn't have made it for competition this week, thus breaking by 23-week streak...
But, in fact, I was having a storm of ideas for Fleeting, trying to figure out some way to show that Sesshoumaru broke the personal intimacy boundaries he held around himself without actually having sex with Kagome. (I'm still trying to work out the logistics of making that realistic, hence the sudden halt to that series LOL). Anyway, one idea I hit upon was massage. It's a rather old trope of foreplay, both in movies and books, so I thought, if I did it right, I could play on that little bit of misdirection for Fleeting and advance the relationship without actually advancing it...if that makes sense.
Anyway, I went looking for research on massage on the interwebz, hoping to come across some demonstrations so I could have a reference for writing. I found a great site with a bunch of different videos of shiatsu massage. I chose this technique, not only because it's native to Japan, but also because it wouldn't require Sesshoumaru to undress Kagome. The massage giver actually uses the friction created by clothing instead of oils or lotions, which played quite nicely into the scenario I had in mind :)
While I was looking at these videos, a line of dialogue popped into my head: "If you're thinking about the clock, then I must be doing something wrong" ~ and lo, and idea was born.
I was initially hesitant to use it for this short, actually, because I was planning to use the massage idea in Fleeting, but it wouldn't leave me alone. So, I radically changed the situation for the drabble - Kagome was giving Sesshoumaru the massage (instead of vice versa, as it worked out in Fleeting) and it definitely had a more erotic undertone. So, I essentially killed two birds with one stone - I had the chance to try out my descriptors, and I gave my smutty fluffy muses a little nourishment (so they wouldn't insert themselves to a detrimental effect in Fleeting; I quite like the intimacy I achieved in the latest chapter there, as it feels balanced with the scenario I painted).
I'm very pleased to see the responses I had to this piece at the comm - most people said the imagery was amazing, and that they either 1) felt like they had received a massage or 2) really, really wanted one afterwards, LOL. That gave me the encouragement to go ahead and write the scene into Fleeting, as was my original plan; I wasn't sure how well I'd conveyed the imagery I'd wanted to, so I'm glad I wrote this piece as a "test", so to speak.
Here's the reference video I used for both pieces, and you can see others at the site: http://shiatsu.hairdownfeetup.com/shiatsu-demonstrations/
