Author's Note: I have no idea how this entry beat out a patented piece of sunsetmiko S/K smut at the contest, but there you are. Wow! That's a pretty big honor.

I had the time to do a bit more research before posting up the finalized version of this chapter, so most of the corrections/expansions are technical in nature. What I really had in mind for the size of the weapon is what's called a wakizashi, a short, dagger-like sword that can be wielded with one hand. According to the internets, this was considered to be a companion sword to the katana in a samurai's arsenal. This adds an unintentional, and yet perfectly complementary, layer of meaning to the entire premise of the piece; I guess sometimes the muses work in mysterious ways!

I also had a lot of fun writing Totosai, one of the few characters in canon who speaks to Sesshoumaru at his own level. The old coot didn't get to be so old by being stupid, and he manages to lend insight in his own way, even when his commissioners don't want to hear it.
