10,000 Maniacs

This is going to sound incredibly pathetic, but ever since I noticed a fairly big milestone creeping up for my very first published fic, I've been watching it like a hawk, hoping to catch that magical moment. Today, on a whim, I clicked over to Media Miner and *gasp* actually caught it!

This is the very first standalone story of mine that's met 10,000 on the hitmeter at MM.org. A ridiculous notion, perhaps, but in some way, I'm kinda really proud. (It only took a year and a half...)

According to the same hit meter, 253 people have made it to the end of said story:

Not bad, for a story I completed almost a year ago and haven't really spoken of since, no?

Hits are something that buoy my confidence a little bit, since my stuff doesn't garner loads of reviews - it means people are reading, even if they aren't telling me so. Hell, even if its the same five readers, over and over again - at least someone's sharing in this little experience with me, which is, of course, the whole point of posting online in the first place :)

This is only the second of my stories to meet or exceed 10,000 hits overall (Fleeting having met that mark back in April of this year at FF.net), so its something rather special that it's my first piece, instead of maybe what I'm most "known" for.

So ~ I send a big "thank you" to my readers!! Without you, there's little point in posting my stuff on the internets to begin with :)

Coincidentally...my most popular piece also marked a milestone, having met and surpassed it sometime in the last day or so. For some reason Collected Works is quite well-read at MM.org (and, to some extent, FF.net...) ~ maybe because it was updated more often than anything else for awhile? At any rate, it's officially the story with the MOST hits, bar none, at any archive where I currently post my work.

I'm...not sure what I think of this, really. I'm glad people like my oneshots and drabbles, but I just don't think short form is my strongest suit. Oh, well ~ I'm happy someone's reading it, and I can only hope they're enjoying it as well!

There are still a few sekrit goals I hope to accomplish with the fics still currently in progress, but for now, I shall enjoy this little moment for what it's worth :)

LOL... I don't watch numbers, but I live with people who do, so I kinda understand how exciting this is.

Congratulations! Truly, sincerely happy for you!

(I think oneshots are popular because they are like a Hershey Kiss instead of a jumbo bar of chocolate. You can finish it in one bite.)

That's great! And I agree about hit counts vs. reviews--especially for later chapters. It means people are coming back for more.

Congrats on your results. There is an audience out there for your IK.
Your Collected Stories results are great.People are responding to Allegiance stories. I still think you should put Allegiance at MM as a stand alone.

I think that the audiences are so different. For CBC I had these results.
Dokuga-31,554 hits 37 reviews MM 11,782 hits 50 reviews ff 18,031 hits 28 reviews. ff dropped like a rock after Dokuga Darling's review and my story warning in response.MM were mostly from one person some IK complaints

Even a great story like Dancing with Scissors has different levels at the various sites. Dokuga 33,657 hits 357 reviews MM 18,631 hits 181 reviews
ffnet ? hits 1046 reviews

w00t! Congrats! I'm glad to see that people are reading - I feel you on the reading-but-not-necessarily-responding thing.

*hugs* YAAAY!

How serendipitous! I have recently had two conversations about "hits" and "faves" where I was pointing out how truly significant they are even without accompanying reviews. This is the true measure of your audience.

(And now I'm going to confess to something REALLY pathetic: I didn't know where the hits/visits thing was at MM until I carefully looked through your post here. I will probably be running off to look at mine now. ^_~)
