Multi-fandom recommendations

Considering how all over the place my muse has been of late, perhaps its no surprise my reading has also been varied. Lots of old-school fandoms represented this time around, because I am still firmly parked on the nostalgia bandwagon.

Title: The Shadows
Fandom: She-Ra: Princess of Power
Author: zangetsugirl
Universe: Canon
Genre: Introspection
Rating: K+
Warning: N/A
Pairing: N/A
Word Length: 203
URL: http://zangetsugirl.livejournal.com/96778.html
Author's Summary: Bow isn't the Rebellion's best archer because he's so good on the harp, but because he's lethal with a bow and arrow.

Why I'm recommending this piece: This is a wonderful little slice of introspection from the Rebellion's resident archer, as he lies in wait to strike. Bow is not a character you'd automatically think of as heroic (especially not when the heroine of the series is fucking She-Ra, aka Awesomeness Incarnate), but zangetsugirl manages to make him seem just that.

Title: Too Much
Fandom: She-Ra: Princess of Power
Author: [profile] zangetsugirl
Universe: Canon
Genre: General/Comedy
Rating: K+
Warning: N/A
Pairing: N/A
Word Length: 182
URL: http://zangetsugirl.livejournal.com/97197.html
Author's Summary: There's subtle and then there's She-Ra. In the middle of a war, a queen takes her amusements where she can find them.

Why I'm recommending this piece: Because its one thing to suspend your disbelief, and quite another for the rest of the created universe to do it ;) A wonderful take on how the Rebellion is, quite possibly, humoring our girl-hero about her supposedly secret identity.

zangetsugirl has claimed the general series at [livejournal.com profile] fanfic100, so expect more snippets and short fic for this series in the future...I know I am! =)

Title: Everything She'd Wanted
Fandom: Sweet Valley High (really, the whole Sweet Valley universe, if we want to be precise)
Author: WhatBecomesofYou
Universe: Canon continuation
Genre: Angst/Romance
Rating: T
Warning: Character death
Pairing: Todd/Elizabeth
Word Length: 2,728
URL: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5751590/1/
Author's Summary: He had been her first kiss, her first love, and no matter how many years it had been since they had an uninterrupted conversation, some part of her would always be his. Elizabeth/Todd through the years. Oneshot.

Why I'm recommending this piece: Because it's really quite innovative, and its wonderfully written. Reading this piece gave me the idea for Reinvent Me, and you will definitely see the similarities. I am a sucker for childhood-friends-to-lovers sorts of relationships, and I was one of the few who actually liked Todd/Liz while the series was still being produced, it seems :P So was this author, and she really treats their relationship beautifully, carrying it through from their first meeting in Sweet Valley Kids, all the way through the *entire* universe run, and beyond. There's no character or ship bashing, and she reunites the two quite beautifully at the end. It's a very mature piece, for a fandom that kinda sorta lacks it, if the fics at FF.net are anything to go by o.O

Title: Regretting Stacey
Fandom: Baby-sitters Club
Author: Celica60
Universe: Canon continuation
Genre: Introspection
Rating: K+
Warning: N/A
Pairing: N/A
Word Length: 2,764 (3 chapters)
URL: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2194512/1/
Author's Summary: Five years after the fight that ended their friendship, Laine Cummings drives to Stoneybrook to make amends. COMPLETE.

Why I'm recommending this piece: There is really a *lot* of good BSC fanfic out there, and quite a bit of it has come from this particular author. The first time I looked up fanfic for this series, I got hooked into one of her many epics, and I stayed up all hours of the night just devouring them. They are character driven and plot driven and just really, really awesome (even when they're kinda annoying).

This piece, in particular, draws a what-if scenario from the end of series book #51, Stacey's Ex-Best Friend, and looks at it from the other side ~ Stacey is a main character in the BSC series, so we know how she felt about ending her oldest friendship with her best NYC friend, but what of Laine? What I love about this piece is: (1) its introspective, (2) it's about a minor character who plays anything but a minor role in the life of a main character, and (3) it has an unexpected ending. It's an excellent introduction to Celica60's writing style and her take on the characters, and I can almost guarantee that if you enjoy it, you'll want to tackle all four of her epic-length pieces (as well as her other oneshots).

Title: Next Generation: Shiori Chronicles
Fandom: Inuyasha
Author: paynesgrey
Universe: Canon divergence
Genre: Action/Adventure/Romance
Rating: K+
Warning: N/A
Pairing: Shiori/Kohaku
Word Length: 6,536 (4 chapters)
URL: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6119133/1/
Author's Summary: A teenage Shiori wants to do something more with her life, and everything changes when she meets a traveling pack of pacifist bat youkai, as well as a handsome demon slayer. Post-Manga.

Why I'm recommending this piece: There are a number of reasons why I'd rec any number of paynesgrey's stories, but this one is just kinda a cut above. I absolutely love that she's carrying on Shiori's story, and really putting her at the forefront of her own adventure. Shiori has crossed paths with Kohaku, the reformed demon-slayer, and now she's fighting her feelings not only towards her future, but towards him. It's a gorgeous piece, being written for contest prompts, and its absolutely wonderful. I urge everyone who reads IY to give this one a shot - its refreshingly different from the rest.
