Assorted Notes (+ Meta Meme: 30 Days of Shipping)
[+] Because I had the chance to reorganize my USB drive of fic, on a whim I decided to take a look at the original stories I worked on in high school and college. Maybe its just perspective or something...but you know what? They're really not half bad. I had some pretty neat ideas, and you can see remnants of my style (as well as the heavy influence of the novels I was reading at the time, LOL), and the work itself is pretty decent - I knew there was a reason I saved it :) My biggest problem seems to have been pacing, and in that, trying to tell way too much story, way too fast. Interesting that I seem to be on the opposite end of the spectrum now :P
Maybe one day, the original muse will come back, and I can rework these ideas into something approaching good - unfortunately, I didn't keep as good of notes back in the day as I do now (I think I was in denial about how much I could hold in my memory at once, LOL), but it was a nice little trek down memory lane, for sure :)
[+] By pure accident, I found a pretty neat little comm this afternoon, and wanted to share it with my f-list. It's called
fandom_of_one, and its a tiny-fandom rec comm that also publishes a weekly newsletter. I'm going to pitch Kids Inc over there and see if I can't rustle up some more fans, or maybe hustle up another tiny fandom or two (though it seems some of my little fandoms are merely little, so much as inactive - the comm's upper cutoff point is 1,000+ fics at FF.net).
[+] I have (slowly) started writing again, and I've finished up another sentence set for
1sentence; right now all I'm waiting for is to have my claim accepted so I can post over there. I definitely recommend these sorts of writing exercises, especially if you feel like you have a million ideas and no time to completely flesh them out, LOL.
And, last but certainly not least...
Day 03 - A pairing that needs to happen now?

Seeley Booth/Temperance Brennan, Bones - I love, love, love this pairing! They are pretty much everything I'm trying to do with Fleeting (and more). And, I think, after five seasons, its kinda make it or break it time. I was not happy with how they handled the 100th episode, because at that point, it felt really forced - it was obvious Bones wasn't ready for such a heavy, heady commitment, and I hate that Booth forced her hand - only to be rejected. However, I thought the last season ended on an optimistic note, so I will continue to hope the writers and producers don't fuck this one up. You can only play with UST for so long before it goes sour, after all...

There are a ton of different comms like this floating around. I like the idea of a sentence comm because on the one hand, its very little commitment, but on the other, its a challenge all the same - how much story can you tell in a sentence?
Fleeting looks good; I'm actually going to start reading that one. :)
Cool! =) I hope you enjoy it! I've been told it has magical powers of conversion, LOL...
I love looking back on my old work, though it's all fanfic. I get to see...how much of a fangirl I was at the time. Okay.
I wrote fanfic when I was 8, but by 12 I'd pretty much started writing nothing but original work. I went through a long dry period, and started writing fanfic again a couple of years ago to sorta shake off the rust and figure out if I could still do this whole writing thing :P I haven't looked back at the reams of material I produced whilst going my merry original way, but now that I have, I realize - it really wasn't half-bad :) I had dreams of publishing original fic once upon a time, and I guess I wasn't as far off the mark as I thought, at least writing-wise. (Plot-wise? LOL - I wrote about some pretty unconventional stuff, but that's probably because I could never find pro!fic that fulfilled that need :P)
Might have to ramble on about this on my own journal tomorrow.
I heartily encourage any and all meta from any and all of my f-list :D

Yay for writing again! :D

Hehe - this is one of those shows I'd never write fanfic for, but I love watching anyway :)
