Miscellaneous: Story status updates

So I have good news and bad news - which do you want first? I'll even be nice and let you pick your poison:

The good news: the next installment of Allegiance will be up very soon! A version of it is sitting at a contest community as we speak, but as per usual, it will be revised a bit before becoming part of the 'official' series collection. I'm thrilled to have written for this series again, after letting it languish for yet another month :-/ and hope to be finding a permanent home for it again, soon.

The bad news: that's the only update on any of my current WIPs I can promise for the foreseeable future.

RL is literally beating me with a stick right now, and the academic brain has firmly taken hold. I've looked through the rest of the month and I'll literally have no time to devote to any of my series, including Nihon Idol and Fleeting. So, I apologize in advance for the distinct lack of updates on both; it upsets me just as much as it does you guys, because I like having a steady creative pace to counterbalance all the data analyses I do during the day. :P

I am hoping this self-imposed hiatus will be short, but can make no promises. At the very top of my agenda the next time I have a period of free time is working on the next chapter of Nihon Idol - I'm very excited about the turn of the plot, and getting a chance to work not only on some Inu/Kag, but some Mir/San as well.

#2 on the list is the next installment of Fleeting; there are currently several paths I'm contemplating, trying to figure out how best to move the story forward and yet keep the speculations alive :) Usually the muses are awake and working on these things in the background, but unfortunately, not so much this time (thanks fandom dramaz *eyeroll*).

I'll still be here on LJ, reading and supporting my favorite authors, running my comms, and maybe posting the occasional short fic for a contest (I never say I'm stopping completely - you can never tell when the muses will bust out again!!), but I wanted to let you guys know what was up, especially everyone who's been so supportive of Fleeting. I really appreciate it, and hope I can count on you to stay patient just a little while longer :)

ALSO: I haven't forgotten my open challenge thread, and thanks to everyone who requested something from me. Those are pretty top priority as well, and may have a better chance of sneaking out over this hella busy time period than anything else (as they are standalone pieces).

Academic mind, eh? I get that affliction...Sometimes it can be handy. My muses want to write about beaches and coastal stuff and the taste of salt air and stuff, but I have been sending them off to research rather than write much yet...

But sometimes, in my case, it backfires. Pink the Plotbunny is trying to make me go beat my hubby up and insist we go to the Oregon coast for a few days so she can have fresher ammunition to weave into her plots. I'm trying to resist. She really wants to go to western Scotland, but I told her the US will have to suffice...but she grumbled a lot.

Yep.

Thesis projects...shudders. I love to do the research and proposals. I hate to write the research.

No fun time.

I will send good vibes your way....

I get into the analysis bit really well. I just hate writing the final papers. In my field, there's not a lot of deep tedious analysis, usually, though, but there is a lot of chasing data. Proposals aren't so bad to me, probably cause they don't have to be as long. But I love digging out fragments of data and stringing it into something meaningful. I just hate polishing it up.

I do it all the time still. It's easier when you don't have deadlines or have to write publishable theses and articles and defend it...

I suppose I will make due during your RL absence by just rereading what's already posted! No worries...though I will miss those updates.

BTW, Fleeting is my *snicker* crack.

I can understand RL. You know we'll be patient and we totally understand the lurking status.

Good luck with your work! Your fanfic downtime will give me a chance to catch up with Fleeting :D

Academics always come first. Sometimes we think that we have all the time in the world but we don't. Good luck. At least you won't have to worry about the wank.

I am ALWAYS uber patient with authors writing the stories I love the most. I will wait, patiently, for updates to 'Fleeting.' And sigh, frequently. But patiently, nonetheless!!

^_^ Uber-patient is entirely possible when the outcome is uber-awesome ^_^

Hehheh! I figured your RL obligations would have to take over for a while when you got to this point in your studies. To be honest, I've been amazed at how much writing you've been able to do ever since I read about your lab time. I remember the thesis days. (So glad they're far behind me now. ^_^) Even when it's data you're really enthused about, just the fact that you HAVE to do it is a buzzkill. And those deadlines can really sneak up on you. All the big stuff is always due at roughly the same time.

I think it's great that you can get into "academic mindset." So, go do your stuff so you can come back and do your stuff. ^_~ Readers wait for quality work, so no worries!

I am a deadline oriented person. When I was in collegeI used to line up my papers and write them according to their due dates. I still do stories according to their due dates. The problem I had with my thesis was that there was no due date and I allowed myself to drift because there was no pressure on me to finish it.
