Miscellaneous: WIPs/Story status updates
While I wait for FF.net to get its act together (seriously, what is this, some sort of weird anti-fanfic-posting twilight zone/parallel universe?), I thought I'd do a little works-in-progress post.
*checks archives* Whoa, it's been awhile...
I'm more or less drowning in giftfics at the moment, so bear with me.
(1) giftfic for KeB, who left the 50th review for Stacy in Bloom
Fandom: Kids Inc
Character/Pairing: Ryan/Stacy, AU divergence from season five
Status: Written [complete - 8147 words]
This is done and my recipient loves it, and she's been gracious enough to give me permission to share it with the world =) The entire process of writing this story was very interesting, engaging, and challenging, and I'm quite looking forward to posting the notes for it. It's very different from my standard KI fare, and looks to be the first M-rated story posted to FF.net in its category. I'm a little nervous, LOL.
(2) commission for
myxstorie via the
help_japan fandom auction
Fandom: Jonathan Creek
Character/Pairing: Jonathan/Maddie
Status: ideas stage [1,000 word minimum]
The winner of my
help_japan fandom auction requested Jonathan Creek fic, preferably something supernatural/creepy, but didn't give me much more to go on in the way of a prompt. I'm going to have to rewatch at least part of the canon to generate ideas, but luckily,
myxstorie has been very flexible about the deadline.
(3) commission for
paynesgrey via the
help_japan fandom auction
Fandom: Inuyasha
Character/Pairing: Kikyo
Status: ideas stage [1,000 word minimum]
I only had two bids on my thread at
help_japan, so I decided that I'd still offer to write, if she still wanted to donate. (That's what this is about anyway, no?)
paynesgrey requested IY, preferably something with Kikyo, and gave me a couple of options :) I'm probably going to go pre-canon with this, something genfic, most likely exploring Kikyo's decision to become a miko. This is going to require some research (including some reread of IY canon since it's been so long), but I'm excited about it. It'll be nice to revive the IY muse (especially considering I have three other WIPs in this fandom, LOL!)
(4) untitled #1 for
babysitters100
Fandom: Baby-sitters Club
Character/Pairing: Sam Thomas/Stacey McGill, continuation of the "Rekindled"/"Reunited" universe
Status: notes stage - ready to be written
This is why I never say never about closing off universes. My last two BSC pieces have focused on the Sam Thomas/Stacey McGill pairing, in a post-canon universe where they have a very complicated friendship/relationship/attraction to one another that plays out over the course of five years. After receiving quite a few positive and thoughtful comments (I <3 you, BSC fandom!) I've reread those originals and found a couple of openings to explore, in continuation of this little series. The first idea deals with Sam's senior prom, to which Stacey found herself his (literal) last-minute date. It will be written in the first person, from Stacey's POV, and an unexpected character will prove instrumental in setting it all up.
(5) untitled #2 for
babysitters100
Fandom: Baby-sitters Club
Character/Pairing: Sam Thomas/Stacey McGill, continuation of the "Rekindled"/"Reunited" universe
Status: notes stage - ready to be written
Idea #2 for this pairing and universe will deal with all that "crazy family drama" so vaguely mentioned in Reunited. Like a bad, broken record, Patrick Thomas has come back to town unannounced and disrupted most of his children's lives, and Sam seeks solace in the form of an old ex-girlfriend, with whom things might just be heating up again. This is first person, from Sam's POV.
I'm writing all of these things out of order, so I guess this would technically be the first story in the series, as the characters are the youngest here (Stacey in ninth grade, Sam in eleventh). Funny how that works out...
(6) untitled #3 for
babysitters100
Fandom: Baby-sitters Club
Character/Pairing: Charlie Thomas/Janine Kishi
Status: ideas stage
Because anytime I write my canon OTP for this series, my alt!ship OTP wants in on the action =) This is going to be a simple, probably short oneshot (ha, famous last words!) of the hurt/comfort variety, which takes place around the time of Mimi's funeral. I thought it momentously sad that the only friends Janine could turn to were the BSC, so this is the place where I rectify that. Charlie and Sam Thomas attended Mimi's funeral in #26 Claudia and the Sad Goodbye, which I thought curious, but now I only see possibilities, LOL =) I'm going to have to reread that book before I work on this, however, hence its place on my list here.
(7) untitled #4 for
babysitters100
Fandom: Baby-sitters Club
Character/Pairing: James Hobart/Susan Felder
Status: planning stage - research required (outside canon)
Talk about random. This is going to prove a challenge in a number of ways, first and foremost of which is the fact that these two are pretty minor characters. This idea came to me while I was rereading #32 Kristy and the Secret of Susan, an otherwise irritating and cringe-inducingly dated book by today's standards. I had a flash of inspiration, seeing these two ten years down the line, and I'm pretty excited to see where this takes me. First and foremost, though, I'm going to have to do a little outside reading on autism to figure out where Susan is on the spectrum, and where/how that intersects with the phenomenon of musical savants. Hopefully the research won't make this idea impossible to bring to fruition, because half of my BSC100 table is minor characters, and I don't want to have to scrap every idea I actually have for them, LOL.
This is, of course, not counting the continued progress on my current WIPs. I'm at the writing stage of the next chapter of Stacy in Bloom (the much-anticipated Big Date that's only taken 90,000 words to get to, LOL), and of course I have notes for the completion of both Fragments and Fleeting, so at this point, it's literally the war of the muses. I must say, though, that it's nice to have an abundance of ideas than a lack - we'll see just how long my motivation holds out, LOL!!
(And if there's anything on this list that particularly interests you, let me know!)

Not that I expect a lot of reviews, but I have one or two people following the story that review it and I'd like to hear (if they're willing to say anything) what they think.

Hopefully your reviewers will show up when things calm down. I know I have stuff out the wazoo lined up to read and review, but I'm waiting until FF.net calms down.

Boo FFnet!
Seriously, I hope they get their act together soon. I may have fics to post there in a couple of days. :/
Technology just sucks lately. Wah.
Good luck with all your writing projects. :)

Fandom-related tech has been blowing for a couple of weeks now, hasn't it? I just re-upped here, too, so as not to lose my userpics *sigh* I hope LJ gets a handle on itself soon.

I wish I knew what the problem was at FF.net, too. I received a review last night, and was able to get in to reply to it this morning, but their little red announcement is still on the front page, so who knows? I wish they'd actually fix it, for a change >:(
Were you able to get everything you needed for your post? I'm sure your numbers are impressive, after three years!

I had a nice breakthrough this afternoon after doing some research for BSC #4, so I'm excited!

I don't know what's up with FFN either. Since I paused in writing my drabble series for a few weeks, I'm going to wait a few more days to see if everything shakes itself out.

Well, the story I posted yesterday afternoon has finally shown up at FF.net, so who knows? I hate waiting for sites to sort themselves out when I actually have something to post, LOL!

I'm glad to hear you're looking forward to that fic! I'm looking forward to writing it, myself. I did some research for the James Hobart/Susan Felder story yesterday and figured out a way to write it, so huzzah! There will be much BSC fic flowing from my pen pretty soon :D
