Miscellaneous: WIPs/Story status updates

Because I have a gazillion ideas floating around in my head, and I need to organize them and assign urgency. This is mostly for my benefit, but if you're curious...


(1) giftfic for *janey-in-a-bottle, who left the 100th review for Fleeting
Fandom: Inuyasha
Character/Pairing: Sess/Kag, but SessMom-centric
Status: notes stage

This one is way, way overdue, and it's about to be even more late. Janey left me the 100th review on Fleeting way back in February 2010. She'd actually forgotten that I'd promised her a giftfic (so much for my guilt eating away at me, LOL), but I contacted her earlier this month to see if she still wanted one and if she liked my idea. Yes on both counts, yay! I was hoping to have it finished by the end of this month in time for her birthday...oops *facepalm* Mostly this is going to be a Sess-Mom centric take on the Sess/Kag pairing, so I need to delve back into her delightful character. I'm looking forward to it, LOL!!


(2) commission for paynesgrey via the help_japan charity auction

Character/Pairing: Kikyo
Status: ideas stage [1,000 words minimum]

Sadly, the progress on this hasn't really budged since my last status update post. I'm still hoping to write something pre-canon, exploring the how and why of Kikyo becoming a miko, but it's going to require some research...not to mention a refresher on IY canon. Luckily, I *do* have my DVDs and ready access to the manga.


(3) final chapter of Fragments

Character/Pairing: Miroku/Sango
Status: notes stage - ready to be written

If I'm going back to IY (and that's where my muse feels headed, not to mention where the one actual deadline I have lies), I'm going to do my damndest to get this chapter and story finished. The only slight problem is the fact that I outlined/wrote notes for this chapter two writing notebooks ago, so I'm going to have to actually find them again. Once I've located them, it should be fairly easy to slip back into the structure and storytelling style of this piece. I'm ready for it to be done.

I'm hoping to push myself to finish some IY works, but otherwise, these ideas are floating out in relatively similar-urgency-towards-completion. I'm hoping to figure out a way to use one of my Mini-Challenge tables to tackle at least one of these projects. Hmm...


Bonus Scene #2 for Secrets

Character/Pairing: Renee + Stacy
Status: notes stage

There's one more scene I want to add to the Secrets universe. This is the giftfic I wrote for KeB in thanks for leaving the 50th review for Stacy in Bloom. The final 'bonus' scene is the conversation Renee and Stacy have after Stacy fights with Ryan over his past. I've been itching to write some good sister-fic, and it'll be interesting to explore a bit of my headcanon for future!Renee.


Sequel to Nice Guys Finish First

I've been toying with the idea of writing a loose sequel to my KI/CA Dreams crossover, and about a week ago I had a nice, full hit of inspiration. This is in what I'd call my 'draft' stage, which is the last stage of notebook writing before switching to a Word document. I have scene structure notes and dialogue, so all that's left is to get back into the feel of the universe and write this puppy out. It would also be a nice segue into...


Origin story for California Dreams
Fandom: California Dreams
Character/Pairing: Season 1 cast, with special focus on Matt + Tiffani

When I went on my CA Dreams jag a couple of weeks ago, I had this idea for an origin story of how the band came together. By Season 1, they've been a group for two years, and are starting to get gigs, so there's not a lot of band history discussed. Only a couple of hints exist in the canon; by season three the cast has morphed into its permanent arrangement and the Garrisons are no longer mentioned at all. For this story, I'm thinking of highlighting the friendship that develops between Matt and his little sister's best friend, Tiffani. I'm also considering writing this is present-tense, which is not my usual comfort zone.

This is the most likely candidate story to grab one of my mini challenge prompt tables, if I decide to go the serialized prompt table route, at least...


Stacy in Bloom - next three chapters

Character/Pairing: Ryan/Stacy
Status: drafted notes stage - ready to be written

I have the next three chapters of SiB in nearly complete form in my KI notebook. These are the Big Date, a bridge chapter with the aftermath of said date (there will be consequences, and that's all I'm going to say for now, LOL), and then the NYE concert. It's hard to believe that Chapter 25 will only be the halfway point, but there you go! LOL. I've also been kinda concurrently planning/outlining the sequel to this story, as SiB will only cover one year of time (school year + summer). The thing that's holding me back here is actually the discovery/confirmation that Ryan and Stacy dated IRL during this season on the show, so it makes me feel like I'm toeing the line of RRF and I'm really not comfortable with that. It was easier when it was just speculation about the actors - but it's never been easy to write for this show, because the actors and characters share the same names, and it would be too easy for someone to misunderstand and/or misconstrue...*sigh* So we'll see. Hopefully I can return to my happy place sooner, rather than later, LOL :)


untitled ficlet #1 for babysitters100

Character/Pairing: Sam/Stacey
Status: notes stage

This is the final story in the 'Rekindled' universe, and it's going to be the anomaly - probably third person (instead of first), and probably from Sam's POV (instead of Stacey's). This is set only a year post-canon from the regular series, with both characters finally in high school, so there's not so much stigma if they drifted together again. They bond over some family drama for Sam involving his erstwhile 'real' father, Patrick Thomas. Mostly, I'm just hoping to avoid the cliche, LOL.


untitled ficlet #2 for babysitters100

This idea has gotten as far as "I want to write some Charlie/Janine hurt/comfort fic!" LOL. Probably going to be set around the time of #26 Claudia and the Sad Goodbye because Janine really got a raw deal there :-/ If I find my C/J muse, then it's off to ~


finish & post Object Lesson

Status: drafted notes/partially written [3 chapters]

I started this story back in November 2010, but it stalled halfway through. I've outlined the rest of it, so I know where it's going and how I'm going to get there, it's just...yeah. I decided to write this in first person POV for Janine, and it's hard to keep that up consistently :P There's some humor tossed in as well, which always throws me for a loop, but I shall persevere! I like this ship - and this story - too much not to, hehe.

Haha, I look at this and just want to cry...

LOL, thanks! I'm glad someone else is looking forward to that project as much as I am, hehe. A couple of weeks ago I rewatched the first couple of seasons of California Dreams to draw up some notes for my origin story idea, and I just couldn't resist watching some of season three as well...:) Mark definitely got the short end of the stick during his time on the show, and it's time to rectify that, LOL!!

I'm chugging along, trying to cross projects off my list before more new ones spring up, so I'm going to need all the luck I can get :P

That's... a lot of writing to do.

I'd write a similar post, but all I really have to do is the four more FMP drabbles for you summer challenge. And two of those are already outlined in my head. So, yeah.

I'll probably drabble over at mirsan_fics some more if the prompt moves me, too, but only if I want.

Of course there's the FMP lemon in my head that's begging to be written, but there's always an FMP lemon in my head begging to be written.

I have to say, I'm so impressed by people like you who can write long, multi-chapter fics. It takes real commitment and I take my hat off to you. :)

That's... a lot of writing to do.

It's a never-ending cycle of projects :P I seem to do much better when I don't give myself deadlines, or promise people giftfics. When will I ever learn? LOL.

I have to say, I'm so impressed by people like you who can write long, multi-chapter fics.

Don't be - it's incredibly painful most of the time. What I wouldn't give for the ability to write more self-contained oneshots! (At least I've learned my lesson about posting half-finished stories...I hate that I have WIPs sitting out there that I haven't touched in years *wince*)

Hahaha, I don't think LJ's character limit will allow me to post notes on all of my works in progress! it's probably something I should try though, just so I can sort through any odd random thoughts in my head.

This is barely the tip of the iceberg of my story notes...I have to keep separate notebooks now because there are so many! :P But posting these little status updates definitely helps me clarify things - I managed to mark off quite a few from the last list I posted :)

You do have a extensive WIP list. I am a little behind in reading. At least I am current on Stacey in Bloom. I am only sorry that Fleeting is no longer on your list.

Fleeting is still on the list! It's a long-term goal, though. I'd like to finish Fragments first, since there's only one chapter left, as opposed to five. But it will be finished! I promise! =)

Making lists is very cathartic...even when that catharsis comes in the form of tears, LOL. I'm really hoping to sweep the top three off the list very, very soon. The others are in various stages of development, but now that I'm actually looking at my IY ideas with some modicum of interest again? I'm going to pursue that until I kill it, LOL.

LOL, well, this is just my "I want to finish these in the next few months" goals - obviously, there will be a lot more SiB, for instance, and of course I have other IY WIPs still floating around :P My bunny hutch is probably just as crowded as yours, it's just that some of them are sleeping right now :P

Glad to see Charlie/Janine on the list. I recently reread Kristy and the Haunted Mansion, and it made me even more curious about the pairing.

Also, I enjoy reading well-organized lists! It usually inspires me to make some lists of my own.
