Meta meme: 30 Days of Shipping
The tissue box has had to make room for a few other sickly/cold/allergy accoutrement, but at least I'm a bit more 'with it' than I was yesterday. Maybe.
Day 08 - The pairing with the most baggage?
This one was a relatively easy choice to make...

Miroku/Sango, Inuyasha - Of all the rich characters portrayed in the Inuyasha universe, nobody comes *close* to these two when it comes to baggage. She is the last of her kind, her entire village wiped out in one fell swoop through a cruel trick of a careless demon. She was thought dead as well, until she dug herself out of her own grave, vowing revenge on those who destroyed her family. As if that wasn't bad enough, the puppet of her younger brother is running around, under the control of the resident baddie, resurfacing every time she seems close to finding peace or happiness on her quest with the Inutachi.
He is a young, itinerant conman-in-monk's-clothing, also the last living member of his family, struck with a curse passed down through three generations, which killed his father and his grandfather before him. He seeks the beast that put the curse on his family, knowing he is living on borrowed time in the process. If he cannot outlive the curse, he wishes to find a suitable woman to give him an heir to carry on the family mission.
As if that wasn't enough baggage, their relationship as they grow to know each other is fraught with complications. Each seems determined to sacrifice themselves for the sake of their love, reaching new heights of matyrdom as the series reaches its peak. For a long time, fans thought one or the other (or maybe even both) would be killed in the final battle, that's how entrenched they were in their own sorrow and anger and fear. Luckily, they made it through to their HEA, but it was by no means guaranteed.
Its been very interesting writing for these two, trying to keep all that in mind and yet not allow my work to become too melodramatic or angsty-wangsty. There's certainly more than enough material to draw from, and some of the best fanwork to come out of IY fandom has been for these two.

It is - all of these amazing and richly intricate characters is what drew me to the series in the first place :) I can't say I've read a manga or watched an anime that I've enjoyed nearly as much before or since.
As
She's posting enough for the rest of us, I suppose. I'm shocked she's even noticed a sea change *shrug*
and I've been stuck in bed all day coughing and sneezing up several storms. :(
I've been doing much the same, along with blowing my nose off. I've been doing my damndest not to nap, though, so maybe I'll sleep worth something tonight...I'm not holding my breath, though :-/

I hate that FF.net's gone on the fritz lately :-/ Just glad I don't have anything ready to update over there quite yet, LOL! I totally know what you mean about reviews, tho ~ someone fave'd SiB yesterday and it made me deliriously happy, haha.

I still had a girlish squeal when I found out they both survived the final battle, of course. :D
Feel better, chica! It seems like *everyone* is getting sick these days. I guess autumn is really on its way.

*nods* Hard to believe they're supposed to be teenagers, isn't it? They were both forced to grow up pretty fast, considering their circumstances.

I'm just ready for some weather other than "sweltering", myself. It's not right for it to be 100F at the end of friggin' September D:

I know, right? I keep meaning to start running again... until I look at the temperature. Hell no, I'm not running in that heat. And now that it's going towards fall, it's muggy too. *flails* Stop it, weather!

It's been really funny talking to people who have never been a part of IY fandom, but who have watched/read the whole series. It's amazing how many people say that they stuck it out to see them get their happy ending. They really are just wonderful characters with a wonderful story, even despite the baggage.

Wow, that is pretty amazing! Considering everything they went through, though, I just don't know how you couldn't root for them to finally find some happiness and peace.

The whole series is quite exceptional in that way, I think. Its rare to find such a long story with such engaging characters with so much room for fannish exploration. This is the only anime or manga I've ever really been sucked into at such a level, and there's a reason for it :)

Oh man, I know. They go through so much, I can't imagine how anyone couldn't just want to see them have a happy ending. They really earned it. (I'll admit though! It's super gratifying when people progress from "Oh, Inuyasha, riiiiight *eyeroll*" to "Oooh Miroku/Sango! Why wasn't there more goodfic for them?" LOL)

Oh man, I know what you're saying. I mean, for seven years, it was the ONLY fandom that really caught my interest to such an extent. I lingered on the periphery of a few for a while, but nothing else stuck like Inuyasha. It's not perfect, but it is amazing!
