17.) Favorite BSC organized event:

Here it is, folks: maybe the only Peter Lerangis book I actually like. (There are exceptions to every rule, I suppose.) The sleepover that the BSC arranges for the SES kids who raised money to aid their Zuni penpals is my favorite event that the BSCers ever put on. This was a reward for the kids who helped with the campaign, which included a huge yard sale - featuring Watson's priceless leather-bound first editions, caviar and pate, and brand new suits and shoes. Needless to say, parents were Not Amused when they discovered their items on sale, but most were decent sports about it.

I attended a similar event as a kid, and it was a lot of fun - tons of people sleeping in a huge, open-air room with lots of games and books and movies for entertainment. We didn't eat pizza or pancakes, but it was a fun event nonetheless, and reading this book brings those fond memories to the fore.

Honorable mentions: The playgroup at Kristy's house in #6 Kristy's Big Day, and the Mini-Olympics that were organized as a subplot of #55 Jessi's Gold Medal.

Seriously tho, it's sorta lost in mid-canon, before Lerangis takes over and Dawn turns into a strident, obnoxious jackass.

Oh the shame of it all. The shame. It's also one of the only (if not the only) box sets I own for the BSC and I spent half an hour trying to track down a picture for my great LT geekathon. So really, my only excuse is that you're right and it's right smack in the middle and thus gets lost. But it's moved pretty high up the re-read list.
